Has anyone had problems with their GM (SRTA) transmissions holding up? My original transmission (93 Chevroletn 6.5 L TD, 4L80E trans) lasted 125 K, then I had a reputable rebuilder go through it and it went another 125 K. Then GM had a "sale" on these "SRTA" transmissions ($100.00 more than a rebuild) plus a 3yr/36000 mile warranty. This sounded good, so I bought one and installed it. It lasted exactly 12 months (8-10000 miles). Then the dealer installed one (under warranty)and it lasted 2 years and 4 months (maybe 20,000 miles, 2 transmissions combined did not make it 36,000 miles) and now they won't stand behind their warranty. Apparently the warranty does not reset because I didn't "buy" the second transmission. But, for a mear $2556 (plus tax of course)the GM dealer will install a "NEW" SRTA transmission with a 3yr/100,000 mile warranty. Great guys eh, they said they would eat the labor, however I can buy the same SRTA transmission from another GM dealer for $200 dollars less, cash and carry. I feel a little violated. I have talked to everyone at the dealership with no success and all of the broken english "Indians" in Bombay that "UNDERSTAND" my frustration and even "CARE" but really cannot do anything, because as far as they are concerned the warranty expired 4 months ago. What a joke! They now have so many "layers" of "caring" people, you cannot even talk to someone that can do anything. Oh, before I even took it to the dealership, they (the dealership) told me all faulty parts would be covered under warranty, provided I paid a $84 diagnosis fee. Then after the transmission was out and strewn across the shop they told me they could not honor the warranty. What a warm fuzzy feeling that gives a guy! After more chewing on my part I have the truck and trans (in the bed of the truck and the "good guys" ate the $84 diagnosis fee) now, and am going to take it to the guy that rebuilt it the first time (for about $1200). The bottom line is my warranty was/is a joke, my dealer is a crook and now that GM has my money they don't give crap about me until I want/need a new truck! I'm still a GM guy, but will approach all dealers as liars and all warrantys as empty promises.
