hey nanc, you being appointed the horse expert,(cause ya gots some) why would a horse eat gravel out of a driveway. my goofy neighbors horses were over again, this time they were eating fine gravel out of my drive. lack of minerals ? salt? i been trying to find homes for these poor critters, but so far nobody wants em.

I'm sure not nanc,, but any one having animals for any length of time, would know it could only be salt,,, I see Squirrels and Rabbits do it all the time....

Ask my brother that runs the local feedstore. Could be looking for salt or some other mineral.

Minerals.. Ours will do that too if they have just salt.

As far as finding a home for them, contact a vet and ask if there are any equine rescue agencies in the area that can help.

If the owner is not feeding them you can always try the SPCA. Here in Tx the SPCA rescues all sizes of animals. With the economy tanked, there have been many seizures of starving cattle, horses, etc.

There are lots of horses posted on Craigs List that people are trying to give away, but I would suggest the owner go ahead and post them. Perhaps someone will take them.
