Eagle 3 point hitch Inventor ?

Family legend has it that my grand father Truman Alec Jackson, of Hawesville Kentucky invented the 3 point hitch. He took his idea to Case in the late 30's or early 40's. Case struck a deal with Truman for the manufacturing rights to his invention then made monor changes to his design and effectively stole the idea from him. He fought to retain his rights to this invention for many years but did not prevail with his limited funds and small town attorneys. Any info or help to get further info on this matter would be appreciated greatly. As a matter of fact: I have been told that for many years the old timers in Kentucky and other states all knew of this and commonly referred to the 3 point hitch as the "Jackson Hitch".
Thank-you,
Bobby McMillan

I'd like to hear more. Could you tell us how this relates to Harry Ferguson's hitch for the 9N. It seems to me that John Deere had the first rear located rockshaft assembly on a tractor which most three points today work from. I've seen the Eagle hitch on a VAC before.
I'm not trying to be a wise guy but I am trying to make sense of what you are saying relative to early 3 point developement.

Ferguson got his patent on the three-point concept in 1926, and fabricated one to go with it. I can't find any record, so there's no telling how it compared to/how closely it resembled the one that made it onto the early Fords.

That said, if your grandfather had the same idea on his own, good on him. If he saw the Ferguson model and had his own ideas about how to improve on it so that folks in the neighborhood had him fab up for them, that's good, too. If there's anything to the legend, it sounds like he was a clever and industrious sort of fellow, whether he came up wit the original concept or not.

im not a regular on here but as far as i know it ferguson brought the 3pth back from england that he already had on his tractor. ferguson and ford in 39 made the 9n sorry to take the wind out of your sails

There was a three point hitch on the Brown-Ferguson tractor several years before the 9n. Ferguson then took it to Ford.

I presume he's talking about the eagle hitch which is especially a 3pt hitch with rigid lower arms and the snap/locking claws (Eagle claws) that got it around Ferguson's patents.

You'll need to talk to some old-timer Case engineers to find out the truth/history.
