Saving my tractor seat from the weather

When I bought my Ford 3000 3 years ago, the seller had just put a new blue deluxe seat on it. It's the kind that has arms and is spring loaded. It's a very nice and comfortable seat, but I'm thinking the manufacturer may have used a poor grade or an interior type vinyl on it.

I have been noticing lately that the seat material (vinyl/plastic) at the top of the arms and the top of the seat back are getting little cracks all over. I know from past experience, that once the cracking starts, the seats begin to deteriorate rapidly. I try to keep it in the shed most of the time, but it's still subject to a little blowing rain, dust, etc.

Does anyone know of a good protectant that could be applied to the seat material to stop or at least slow down the cracking?
I should have been putting protectant on it before now, since it may be too late to help much.

I had thought about Armor All, but didn't know how good it would be on exterior surfaces. I also wonder if Saddle Soap would work.
Any ideas? Thanks

Ronnie

Protectants with a UV inhibitor will work but not on deteriorated materials. No way to reserect the dead. Sorry. I agree that the materials used these days are inferior to products from 10 or so years ago.

Armorall has a product that is for vinyl. But once it is cracking, the plasticizers have evaporated out of the material, and it will be a matter of time. JimN

I agree with the others.. before it rotted you could have put some uv inhibitor and fungicides/ vinyl protectants on it.. now it's a candidate for a recover and the protectants.

Lately I have been using plastic barrels - I cut an end off with a skill saw and use it as a cover - upside down on things that are left out in the weather.
Or would a large plastic tub fit on the seat?

I use a plastic tub that held 200 lbs of mineral block as a cover. Works well and easily obtained.

Most of the tractor seats you buy have a middle grade vinyl material. Take it to the closest upholstery shop and have him redo it with MARINE GRADE NAUGAHYDE. He'll probably have to order it. It's spendy, but gorgeous and comfortable when new, and stays new for a long time! Actually is better looking and more comfortable than leather.

I cut plastic barrels long ways and they will cover the seat and steering wheel , bunge on each side holds em tight in those winter storms
