Son bought a new car about thirty days ago. Was careful to get one that I and wife along with walker and wheel chair could get in. Started driving it work at University. Last Tuesday he had stopped at a stop light behind another car.
WHAM the care behind him rear ended him when hit by a car driven by a little Co-ed Dolly. Totaled her car. next in line had front and rear damage. Sons new car had sever front and rear damage. It will no doubt be totaled. The coed's car was insured by by Farm Bureau Auto Insurance. As of today (Sunday) adjustor has not see son's car. Son after screaming finally was told there was a voucher being sent to local agent for a rental car. This looks like a ==== ot a way for a company to due business. OR does toatal damages exceed the insuance amount being carried by the little Dolly.

Glad your son is OK. Be careful dealing with the insurance company. I suggest that you get your agent involved and possibly an attorney. Make sure you get covered for medical costs and any lost ime due to this accident.

My daughter's car was rear ended in Ohio by a guy who fell asleep at the wheel and created a 4 car chain reaction while she was at a red light. The other guy's insurance was Nationwide and we had nothing but trouble with them. They totaled my daughter's car and Nationwide kept calling me offering low-ball offers which I refused. They even went so far as to take the car from the dealership where it was at for the repair estimate without my authorization. I called my insurance company (Auto Owners) and they sent in a wrecker to get the car back. I called the police in Columbus, OH and reported the car stolen and gave them the Nationwide agent's name and number.

Finally got a settlement from my insurance company for way more than Nationwide was offering.

They are NOT on your side.

We've got FB insurance on everything but only have had one claim so far and they were quick to serve us. You must have the insurer's number you may need to call them to see what is going on on their end. Good luck.

I wouldn't be in a hurry to sign off not being injured when rear ended. He may have some late
neck or back pains resulting from being rear ended. This happened to my wife back in the 60's
it seemed that insurance adjuster was on our front porch the next morning. It's too late once you sign off. Hal

Hi gitrib,

A trick I learned, call your State insurance commissioner and "talk" with them giving your different complaints, then they will tell you on what too say in a written complaint.

" Ins company won't respond too me since ------" bla, bla, etc. Is the one I used, and Hartford was on the phone in a week wanting too know how much too cut the check for.

Ins company's have a very short time to respond too you AFTER a WRITTEN complaint is filed. If they don't, they get there hands slapped really hard. :)

If they ignore a IC request, they go out of business in AZ.

Was her insurance from the same state as where the accident occurred? If she was from out of state then her Farm Bureau Insurance is a different company than the local Farm Bureau Insurance.

When I got hit by an uninsured motorist in Des Moines a separate company handled my claim for Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, Iowa Farm Bureau Insurance was not involved at all.

I have had 5 claims against Farm Bureau. They have been very nice and fixed my vehicles within the week in most cases. I just called them and they asked who I wanted to fix it and take the vehicle and have it fixed. One time the other driver had lapsed their insurance and I had already had the vehicle fixed. The still paid.

Same state different county. I had Farm Bureau Insurance when I farmed in Iowa. I tried to get when I moved to Oklahoma. They are bunch of odd balls.

As far as auto insurance, each state has its own specific rules and each state FB company has its own automatic inclusions. What jumps out at me though is limits of coverage. In Kentucky, minimum insurance limits are 25000 per person, 50000 per accident in medical liability and 10000 in property damage. Even with higher limits if she totalled 3 cars in one accident she probably hit limits of her coverage.

Does your son have under-insured motorist coverage? I'd definitely recommend he be in contact with his carrier. As to claims, personally, I dont think that a week is too long to wait for an adjuster to look at a vehicle. Especially for an accident of this magnitude that will probably hit policy limits. The company has its responsibility to protect their insureds interests, first and foremost.

The rental car is just to get your son wheels while they sort out all the who done what stuff.

When you say new car, is it brand new? If so there is no argument about what it is worth. And if it is in fact totaled, then just have them replace the car with an exact copy.

Get everyone checked out by a doctor, not a chiropractor.

Then if everyone is ok and you settle on the car, then they should shoot you a figure for your aggravation and doctor bills.

Yes it was a brand new car. Not a program car.
It had 20-30 miles when he drove it off of the dealership. If they try to fix it it will affect its resale in the future as they have to report on a car if it is in a wreck.

gitrib, Do not doubt for one moment that the Farm Bureau, just like most other companies won't use the rental car as a ploy to get you to settle. I have always had a back up rig to use as a rental when needed. At $75.00/day rental they pay You! and that makes a nice Down on a replacement.
I being a pickup truck driver, My position has allways been You, the Insurance Co. will put me in a comperable Truck that will pull a large trailer. Being no company was around the last time. I simply rented my own! From ME! They will pay you!
Later,

PS....A lot will depend on this girls F.B. Agent. If He/She is a really good agent it shouldn't take long, If not weeeeelllll who knows!

Assuming your son has insurance just turn it in to his insurance company. They will adjust the loss and settle up with the Farm Bureau on his behalf. The Farm Bureau people won't jerk his insurance company around like they might try to do to your son, they know all the tricks and will call them on it. Your sons insurance company will probably be more inclined to give him a fair settlement too since, in the end, the money isn't coming out of their account, its gonna come from Farm Bureau. This won't be a mark against your son either, he wasnt 'at fault'. This is one benefit of having insurance, take advantage of it.

Depends a lot on what state each car is insured in and where the accident occurred. Here in Michigan, he will get nowhere talking to the other driver's insurance company. With no-fault insurance, you have to go to your insurance carrier. I was re-ended by a cement truck a few years ago. I only had liability on the vehicle and I collected a measly 400 bucks against over two grand in damages.

I had a fender bender and the guy who hit me wasn t insured to drive that car so his co would not pay.( You do not insure people you insure cars) I told his agent to hold that thought and called my co and told them what happened and where I was taking the truck to be fixed,30 days later I got a check for my deductible from my co.

Let your son's insurance company handle it. They will probably settle on the car and subrogate to Farm Bureau.

As said below deal with your insurance company and let them deal with FB. My experiance with them is if all you want is a card to show proof of insurance they are fine, if you want claims service you suddenly turn into a theif that's trying to steal the food out of their mouths.

My BIL kept going on and on about how great they were and got pretty nasty with me when I gave him my opinion on them. They were even a "Farm Bureau Family of the Year" with their picture in the local paper. Then his hog shed burned down with several pure bred hogs that his kids were raising for 4H. He got paid market price for the hogs - to insure "breeding stock" like he had was a writer to the policy so for $800 and $1000 animals he was paid $80 and $90. Didn't matter that he could prove their value - he wasn't supposed to have nice animals on his farm I guess. Mounts up fast when you have 10 of them.

This part of the country F.B. is one of the easiest and best insurance compaines to deal with.
Hard to beat their prices and service in Tenn.

Hey T bone, one time I had insurance man in house trying to sell me life insurance policy. State ins. comm. was personal friend of mine. I mentione his name and the doggone salesman hit the road. Didn't even say good bye. Dave
