This morning, my wife and I were in Reagan Airport in Washington DC waiting to board a plane back to Omaha.
A lady came around offering U.S. flags and said very shortly an Honor Flight of WWII Vets from Georgia would land and deplane at the gate next to ours. Two fire trucks parked on the ramp discharged an "X" over the airplane as it taxied between them. Then when the vets deplaned, it was pandemonium. A band was playing but could barely be heard above the cheers and handclaps, flags were waved, and I doubt there were very many dry eyes in the area. Mine weren't.
My wife and I had to board our plane, but it was reassuring to know at least part of "my" America still exists!
