problem w/8n carburator

My tractor only runs well when I pull the choke out about half way. Do I need to adjust the low end jet or the High end jet
 
Your carb is set too lean or you have an air leak around the carb"s metering section. There is also the possibility that you have a weak spark and a weak spark requires a richer mixture to ignite.
My advice is to go to the 8N forum and search the archives there. The instructions for adjusting the carb can be found there. You can also ask this question there.
 
As stated,probably need a carb kit. The THREE MOST important steps is cleaning, cleaning and cleaning. Soaking in cleaner, blowing cleaner through it and using high pressure air hose to blow it out WILL NOT WORK. You need to clean each passage, on an individual basis with carb spray through the little red plastic tube, run small wire through it, repeat spraying, repeat wire, repeat spray, then blow through it with compressed air. Also,besides what the others said,when you are rebuilding it,look at the shaft that holds the butterfly in.If its wore out around the butterfly shaft it will not run right.Most of the time those old carburetors get plugged up with varnish in the passages and its hard to get them cleaned out,even with compressed air and a small wire.
 
also make sure your gasline line , filter, tank outlet is not partly pluged.Not enough fuel to carb can cause you to have to have to choke it.
 
thanks guys. Actually, the carb is a new carb. It has been on there about 3 months. I also have a new coil on there as well. I will try and clean the carb and see if maybe some debree has gotten in the jets. Thanks
 
Fill in a gap or 2. Front or side mount distributor?? Your problem could be weak spark takes more gas to make a weak spark do its job better. Could be a carb set to lean open up the main jet a tad bit at a time AFTER you know you have a good blue/white spark that will jump a 1/4 inch gap
