one more baler question....

Sorry folks,
Just one more. NH 268, IH 430, JD 14,24T or comparable balers length, width, and weight. Just need to know if they are more than 6ft 8in wide, 14ft long, and about what they weigh. Need to figure out if they will fit on a car transport trailer.

Thanks, Dave

No, you need a flatbed trailer (bed goes out over the tires, not between them)- my recollection is that the wheels are slightly more than 8 feet apart on the baler, and you have to put it on "slonch-ways" to get both wheels on the trailer. Been a long time since I hauled one, though.

dave2,

I hope this information isn't too late to be of any use to you.

I have a PTO driven, short tongue NH 273 baler. The width of the baler, from center-line of the wheel on one side of the baler to center-line of the wheel on the other side of the baler is 8ft. 4in.

The distance from the axle to the front of the tongue is a tad over 10ft. The total length of the baler, less the removable chute on a the back of the baler is about 14ft.

I don't know about the weight of the baler. My Owner's Manual doesn't give that specification.

Good luck on procuring a baler.

Thanks Folks! Guess I have to back off and regroupe. Then figure out transport before looking again.

Thanks, Dave

I would say the weight would be around 3000#. I have a 268 as my main baler and consider it one of my better investmemts.

Why haul? Just pack wheel brgs. and take along a pare of good tires for spares and pull it. The brgs. are the same as a trailer and with good tires no problem to pull it.

Looking at 300+ miles on the German autobahn, farther on secondary roads (which is prolly not allowed either).... If I can find one within 60 miles, I'll make a tractor ride out of it which would be allowed on secondary roads.

(quoted from post at 03:57:19 09/20/09) i think i would look a little closer to home for one myself. RICK

Haven't found anything local yet.

Wasn't concerned about the distance until I realized they won't fit a car trailer. Guess I'll start beating the local bushes a little better.
