How many 8' 2 bulb florescent fixtures can I have on 1 circuit?

15 or 20 amp curcuit?

You can have about 2000 watts on a 20 amp and about 1500 watts on a 15 amp. So take the wattage of your bulbs and add them up.

You can go a little more than that but you would be stressing the limit.

Just check the wattage of 8' bulbs. 60 watts.

120 per fixture so, 17 fixtures on a 20 amp curcuit and 13 fixtures on the 15 amp.

Code only allows 85% dedicated load. If you"reusing electronic ballasts you mightwant to back it down a little more, like 65% or you may have some problems due to in-rush.

When I designed secondary power distribution such as lights and receptacles etc. in a commercial building, on a 20 amp lighting branch circuit (20 amp breaker and 12 gauge wires) I never went over 16 amps max continuous load (i.e. 80%) so knowing the total wattage of the lamps PLUS DONT FORGET THE BALLAST its a pretty simple calculation........ If you only ran a 15 amp branch circuit then I never went over 12 amps (80%) max.

In the event I wanted to switch more lighting circuits but still only use a single switch, I used lighting contactors..
