has to be an easier way

hey guys, i've been taking apart and fixing up tractors for a few years now and i have to ask if anyone knows a better way of removing an internal snap ring. not the ones with the lobes but the older ones with the ends cut on an angle. i always just use a pair of screwdrivers and work it out but is there a better way? Thanks

Glennster ,Those pliers will not work for internal snap rings. I know what he is talking about. These snap rings that are in the JD trans. Snap on does not carry any thing for those kind!! I've already checked several times!!

That's all I've ever used. Its always an adventure, trying to figure out where it will fly when it comes loose. I've taken to putting on welding gloves and safety glasses for snap ring work.

I've got the Snap-on pliers. They have flat tips,
not the round tips for eyelet snap rings.
They work good, but the ring can still go flying
when it comes out. Cost was about $18.00 in 1977.

I have a pair of those and they dont work on inside smaprings. Best results I have is with one of those icepick things thats bent in a u on the end for removing rubber o rings. still not the best but usually gets the job done.

I read on this site that you can take a small center punch and hit the snap ring about a 1/4 back from the end it will bend up and make it easier to get a screwdriver under it.
