Engine Restore (In a bottle)

Has anyone out there ever try that Engine Restore that you add into your oil? Its for high miliage engines. Just wondered if anyone has ever had any luck with it. I've seen other forums (dealing with cars) and there has been many possitive feedbacks. I know it isn't going to fix knocking rods or screwed up cylinder walls, but will it work on worn rings, valve guides etc.?

Works like those wonder vitamins for people. Take three bottle and look like Mr. Universe while lying on your sofa watching tv.

Only 2 things that those additives can do: Thicken the oil to slow the amount that blows by and gets burned, and possibly swell some seals a bit to slow down leakage.. No guarantee that either one will happen..

There is no way some snake oil in a can can fix wear in a engine. I seen on the can it will "fill in scratches in the cylinder wall" Not a snow balls chance in $ell. Once the metal is gone from wear theres no replacing it. You bore it out and fit it with oversized parts.

years ago i tried a bottle in a '62 chevy pickup i had, it was so in need of a overhaul it burned a quart of oil every 100 miles,i added restore, and... it turned the oil dark colored, it still burned a quart every 100 miles, the oil color was the only thing that changed , no miricle in a can can take the place of fixing worn out parts

I tried a lot of that stuff when I was in my younger days and trying to squeeze every mile out of whatever junk I was driving, but I never could tell a difference.

Don"t know anything about that particular product, but like Davis and Bob said, if you have a marginal engine the engine goop"ll sometimes slow oil burning a little, depending on the engine; there"s different goop for oil seals, or used to be.
I"ve used "em both; the engine goop got a slant 6 225 thru DEQ when nothing else worked (took two bottles) which didn"t seem to hurt the engine as it had plenty clearance everywhere.
Used AT seal sealer 3-4 times; worked for me, but my cars get easy use. Good luck.

I've used it on three engines, a 1961 Volkswagen powered dune buggy - it got 8 miles to the quart and I couldn't see behind me. After Restore it got about 20 miles to the quart, still bad oil consumption but very high percentage of improvement. The guy that sold it to me said how good of an engine it was! REALLY broke it off in me!
2nd was a 1965 I-H Scout - the seller told me it used so much oil he had been using used oil in it and that it smoked horribly. I poured Restore in it after driving it home, and drove it back to sellers house the next day to get the title. He was out in his field and saw me coming down the road. He pulls up to the house and says "how'd you get that to stop smoking?" I told him I put in some "overhaul in a can" and he wanted to give me my money back. He said if he knew fixing it was that easy, he would have kept it. I blew that engine two years later running 73 MPH down the hwy. [4:27 gears] with it flat on the floor and the night before I had it stuck trying to pull out a friend that was where he shouldn't have been.
3rd was 1964 Chevy Corvair. it had no improvement after Restore - 50 miles to the quart before - 50 miles to the quart after and it still smoked badly.
Two outta three ain't bad! Surprisingly, none of these engines fouled any sparkplugs before or after.

Sorta like taking heavy pain medication for a broken leg. You MIGHT not feel the pain, but the leg is still broken.

Band aide fixes often lead to more serious consiquences.

I knew an old mechanic that trained me. Swore he would shoot me the first time he saw me use any thing but oil. Showed me what STP did when poured into an engine. Just sits in the bottom of the oil pan. Some of that stuff can cause more harm than good.

My grand-dad, Newt, was a mechanic all his life. Newt called products like that "mechanic in a can," and had very little regard for them. Now, he'd occasionally use some Hastings "Casite" poured down the carb to help free up a sticking valve, but that was about the extent of his faith in chemical "mechanics."

I firmly believe ol' Newt had it right.
