I am repairing a Ford diesel tractor (injector pump leaking into crankcase). I think the tractor is a later (1960?) 861-D. I am assuming by the nice pics I see on-line. No decals on sheet metal. CONN6015 cast in right front of block. Many other numbers not legible.
In getting parts, and in the repair manual, two engines mentioned. Want to be sure of which one. Any suggestions? Yes, I'm novice at Ford Tractors....sorry.

Model and serial number should be on the bell housing under the battery area, there is a flat spot there. Bad thing is on the diesels for some reason the numbers some times are gone because of battery acid eating them away

The two engines are most likely a 144 cid and a 172 cid.The same parts will work on both applications. The 144 was used in the 601 series tractor. The numbers you are looking for are on a flat surface just behind the starter mounting hole.

Thanks! I won't have parts problem, as you say (I think, and you know). However, injector pump timing 2 degrees different between the two. Would it make that much difference? One gets set at 18 deg BTDC the other, 20 deg. I've never messed with diesel injector pumps before. DO have manual & procedure to remove/replace and time.
