fuel storage

Usually dont have a lot of deisel left over for the winter but will have a few hundred gallons this year. Have thought of adding more stabil but wondered if anyone has better product they use. About ready to lock the doors till spring.
Snow is too deep to try getting out there (drifts) once the snow starts.

I don't know but I found a John Deere 720 Diesel that had been setting for 20 years. Diesel tank was full of Diesel fuel, which was algae and content-free. Burned that in the 4020 effortlessly.

Probably wasting your money on fuel-keeping fluids.

I have 100 to 200 gallons of diesel leftover every year. I never add anything to it. I put it in the tractor and it runs good. I have never had a problem with it. I had a little John Deere 1020 that sat for 10 year full of diesel. I put a battery in it and it started right up. It ran with no problems. Perhaps I am just lucky, but that has been my experience with storing diesel. Best of Luck, Bob

I'd put Power Service in at the recommended rates. My supplier puts it in at 3 gallons per thousand so I dont add any more. Never had any problems. Normally I go through a tank every two weeks until October, then get my tank filled (600 gallons) and work off of it until early March or so when I get it filled again. Never had any issues yet. Some of the fuel out there was refined decades ago. One of the suppliers here bought some surplus in 2005 at Ft Knox that had been stored in underground tanks since the 50's.

Diesel fuel doesn't need to be treated for long term storage. I get all my diesel from homeowners that have or are currently switching over to natural gas. I have pumped several tanks where the fuel was un-dyed. These tanks were being removed prior to selling the house. How old do you think that fuel was?

Moreover, I started up my International truck with a DT 466 that had been sitting for 11 years. It started well and ran fine. I also have several tractors that see very little run time. Some of that fuel has to be 10-15 years old.

Don't waste your money. Don't buy into to the bogus info that the sellers of Stabil want you to hear.

As a footnote, I don't even think Stabil is necessary for today's gasoline. I picked up a hundred and fifty gallons of 2 cycle prepared gas from a boat two years ago. I run it in my Farmall 400 and 504. Ya, it's a little smoky but I have had no problems.

Thanks to all, I have never asked the supplier if he adds anything so will do that and then decide. Thanks again. Bob

I bought a 300 gallon fuel tank on a stand that was 3/4 full of diesel yet, and a full 55 gallon drum sitting beside it. Was told it was at least 10 years old, maybe older. I used it in my tractors this year with no trouble. It's all gone now and I'm running new stuff and can't tell any difference.

well I would think you need to at least drain all the condensate water off the bottom before use.
