Well I got the new cutter bar for my mower today, put it in and torqued the head bolt the best I could. I also put some loctite on the threads. I wonder if I could tack weld it so it wont go anywere???? They are bolt on sections. Also There isent enought threads for double nuts either. Thanks for the Info guys.J

I wouldn't weld the nut, there's always a time when you need to pull it out in the field. That would make your day a little longer. ?-I don't know about 489's much we run a 488, but couldn't you use a longer bolt on the knife head in order to double nut it?

i wouldnt weld it. just make a habbit of chcking the nut every time you grease it. kinda like checking the oil on a tractor before you use it...
M puller

Thats what I figured, Keep checking it before I use it. I wasent going to weld it solid, just tack it, so I could grind it, or sawzall the weld spot. Hopefully the loctite, and me checking it will prevent this happening again. I dident know it might be a common problem. J

I pull mine a time or two every yr. I ve never had a problem , I just use a ratchet and deepwell socket on the bottom up through the hole in the skid plate and a wrench to hold the nut . It has a locknut on it and has never losened up . The bolt is long enough to put a jam nut on it but I havent needed it . I am thinking your lock nut is bad . With a new bolt and locknut you should nt have a problem ., I d pass on the weld also .

i just changed mine couple days ago due to breaking (old bar) it is a fine threaded 5/8 bolt with locknut also i use just regular wrenches to change in the field
i agree with all others dont weld it you might to need to pull later
