ot computer cleanup

Purchased a (best-kept computer secrets)book.it's good (not an ad)But some of the tips are hard to figure out .For instance it says toclean out unnecessary &junk e-mail messages but does not tell you how to do that. Can you help me find that site to help clean up this pc or other helps to clean up this old pc (it is very slow but so am I) Thanks in advance...

If it uses Windows, in Control Panel under Internet Options one can use the Delete tool which cleans a ton of "stuff".

In Programs,,,,,,,Accessories,,,,,,,,,System Tools theres Disc Cleanup which does the same. I clean up my cache almost daily and run a top notch Anti Virus and Anti Spyware program.

You also need to get almost EVERYTHING (programs) out of the automatic start up mode. The ONLY things I let auto run at start up are my Anti Virus. I do this by running Programs,,,,,,,,Accessories,,,,, Run,,,,,,, and then type in MSCONFIG and enter,,,,,,,then clik on the Start Up tab and uncheck remove allllllll except for anti virus

I bought a program called "Auslogics Boost Speed", I think it is from a Swedish software firm, it was $20 or so, and it has a lot of automated stuff in it to remove junk and defragment stuff, organize things for speed and that kind of stuff. You can try it for free from www.download.com I'm not trying to sell anything here, but for someone like my dad who does not know how to do all this stuff manually, he finds it pretty easy to use and it keeps him moving along on eBay:) I have the PC's for dummy's book, makes a better door stop than a book in my opinion.

It starts from day one. Have all file in a folder that can be backup. All programs that you download copy to disk as well. Format the harddrive then reinstall and restore files. If at anytime your system starts having problems stop installing that program or file. ..

I use Linux, so I don't have to deal with a lot of the windows spyware crap. However, the learning curve is very steep.

I use these

Cleaner works well
http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/registry-defrag/download
Even though you have a defrag on your computer this will do it in about a minute or less.
http://antivirus.comodo.com/
Comodo doesn't load your computer down and I never had any known threats.

All free, look around if I didn't list a free link.
