I have a New Holland 489 Haybine, last spring 08 I put a new knive bar in it, pulled out the old one and slide in the new one. Ran it all last summer no problems, 3 fields this year and it locked up on me. I looked it over and I found the pitman arm nut was gone, except a little trace of it on the threads, the bolt was bent and the new knife bar was snapped off right by the pitman arm bolt and bearing. I did not hit anything with the mower,I know the field and its clean, has been for 20 years! could the nut have worked its way loose and caused this to happen? also I have noticed the knifes are pretty hot to the touch after mowing, could the heat cause them to lock up? Also when I put in the new Knives in was I supposed to adjust anything on the guards, mine are stub guards. Hopefully I can fix this tomarrow so I can get my mowing done. Thanks JayinNY
