Got back Sat after 12 days, 3500 mi to SC, NC, VA, DC, MD, PA, but no alphabet soup. Youngest daughter graduated from Basic at Jackson, SC. Army screwed up- had no transport for her to Ft. Bragg, NC, but they knew we were headed there, where I was in "65, and they let us transport her. So, we got 4 days with her instead of two. Later, up the coast to family, historical sites, and home. She is headed to Psyops, Arabic language training, and had her Airborne physical yesterday. This is our Stanford daughter, double major in Psychology and Sociology who chose to serve us and U.S. for 4 years. Please keep her and all other troops in mind and in your prayers.

Ditto what Nancy said. Congrats to her [i:ff0f13c472]and[/i:ff0f13c472] you..... you have alot to be proud of, you must have raised her right.

I will add mine to what Nancy and tim said Please congratulate her. Tell her thank you From all of us at Double OO farms.
I know about that Jackson, SC. Army the wife and I was over there about two months ago. One of my brothers adopted boys graduated from there. tell her to be careful falling out of those perfectly good airplanes. My youngest son is there at Pope AFB (Part of Frot Bragg) working on them.

congratulations and prayers extended to your daughter. sounds like she has good parents also. did my basic training there also in 67, remember it well and respect it also. then it was nam looking us in the face.

Congratulations to her and best wishes. I did basic at Ft. Jackson in 62. She had cooler weather than is normal for that area.

Please give her my congratsulations. Also let her know that her service for our country is very greatly appreciated. God bless her, you and your family.

My son did his basic there in 07. If you/they let them know in advance they will let parents transport up to 500 miles to next base. We where initially told no to take him to Aberdeen Proving grounds for his AIT (exceeds the 500 mile rule). He made a second request and they approved it. But we had to pretty much go straight there. Drove up I-95 to DC and spent the night with my little sis. Next day he had to be checked in by 11:00 am. Hit some civil war sights on the way back to Ohio after dropping him off.

My baby girl is heading off to the Navy next week. She will be at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center for 8 weeks and then off to Norfolk (Oceana I think) for 8 months. I hope we can do the same. Unlike her brother, she could stop by the home place before heading out.

Fantastic!!!!!! Tell her thanks from me too!!! I'm sure you are proud!!!!! I have a nephew looking at the Navy Sub nuclear program. He has 1 more year of college U of Chicago.,
he is very disillusioned with school. All they teach is theory, he hates it. Looks like alot of people still raising kids right contrary to what we read and see. I know it was the best thing i ever did in my young life.
To the rest of you that have family in the services thanks!!

Congratulations to her and to the family; she had a great role model. One doesn't have to serve to be a patriot, but we all need to give something 'back'. The concept is missing in so many of our youngsters.

Tell her thanks from one old vet to a new vet. The Navy sent me to Mayport Florida in 1968 to board my ship USS Saratoga CVA 60. Got there no ship in the harbor. Checked in to base ops and they had no idea where the ship was. Told me they lost it. I ask them how can you loose an aircraft carrier. Two days later they found the ship in the Philly ship yards. So I went from sunny beaches to snowbound Philly.

Currently it"s a company by company issue regarding transport. Her first company, before she got H1N1 quarantine, was nice, this one was living hell. DS accused her of being a slacker for going on sick call, later found out what she was in for. Each piece of mail cost them 65 pushups. Despite that, towards the end she made acting E7, platoon guard, and her platoon was honor platoon for the company. Her brother was in Jackson about "96 for Basic and AIT.

Congratulations to you and to her, and thanks to her for her service!

We need to see more good stuff like this here, and a lot less crap.

You've got to be proud of her. I was at FT Bragg
from 1953 til 1955. Went to jump school at Ft Benning GA. Our daughter was born at Bragg in 1954. Her bill was $5.25. Hal

HELLO JMS/.MN,
You are right! She chose to serve us.
So we say thank you and God's Speed.
Guido.

I don't pretend to be an expert on these things but if your daughter is a Grad of Stanford University with those degrees and language capabilities why is she going through basic training ? She seems like an excellent candidate for a ROTC or a OCS Officer comission. I spent spent 5 years Army and left as a E5 and spent 6 years in the Navy Reserves left as an 03. What is going on ?

A commission in the officer corps is not automatic for all college grads, like it is for a doctor, nurse, certain others. She intends to go to OCS after the other training. She was enlisted as a PFC, because of her degrees.

El Toro----Interesting!!!---I was at Ft Bragg also 1953 to 1955. Clerk typist for Adjutant Gen office on Smoke Bomb Hill.

Thank you to all for your kind words and good wishes, for Jen and the other troops that serve us. She knows that Dad"s favorite daily site is here, and I printed out all of your comments and will send them to her, to share with her buds. She is in a good AIT at Bragg, no more getting smoked with 65 pushups for each letter. They were all so helpful and friendly the 3 times we brought her there! (long story) But, Airborne always takes care of their own, and watches each other"s backs. She is in good company. Being female, can"t be in Special Forces like Dad, but can be attached via Psyops- says she won"t fight this war with a gun, but will, with her brain, in Psyops. Again, thanks to all of you!
