Early Thursday morning I headed 500 miles northeast to Rantoul,Illinois. My destination was the Half Century Of Progress Show held there at the old Chanute AFB on over 1000 acres with some 400 acres of crops.

I arrived at Rantoul at 7 PM and by 10 PM it was pouring rain. When I got up Friday at 6:20 AM it wasnt raining but 10 minutes later it was pouring again and rained until 8:30.The Rantoul-Champaign-Urbana area was drenched by 2-5" of rain.It also rained off and on during the day which ruined all planned field demonstrations.Just as the parade started a 2 PM a drenching rain came that even soaked thru my wallet.

Me (red coat) completely soaked standing in front of Big Bud after the sun came out around 4 PM.I asked a nice lady to take my picture as I went alone. There was a crowd around Big Bud most of the day.

Big Bud on a 15 bottom Wilrich plow which it had played with on Thursday afternoon. That was the day to have been there as it was nice and sunny. They plowed, cut soybeans, picked and shelled corn, baled hay-etc.

There must have been 30-40 combines there plus at least 50 corn pickers both pull type and mounted.I took well over 200 pictures. Its an awesome show which I will try and attend again in 2011.

Sounds like you hit the worst part of the show. No rain on Saturday, beautiful day (except for the mud) and we got to pull on Saturday night. Today was great- calm and cool, plowed till after 5 pm. Big Bud made a few rounds with the 15 bottom, with a Steiger pulling 10 bottoms (I think). Got some clear cell-phone pictures, but my son has to teach me how to download them. That ground sure pulled hard, but it was still fun. Wish they had the show every year.

Thanks for the pics 1206. Ya should have said something , I'm only 100 miles away . I sat in the stupid rain for 4 days here watching my hay just wilt in the rows. Heck i still have water sitting in my fields, raked anyways. Guess the cows will get this crap. Never even thought of heading down that ways.

I left Springfield, MO about 7:30 Thursday morning checked in the Drury Inn at Chapaign and drove on up to Rontoul, got there about 3:30 and glad I went Thursday evening since it was dry, they pulled the 10 bottom plow with the Case steame engine and Big Bud plowed a round.
Friday was a differnt story it was a muddy mess and it came a down pour about 2:00 pm, tractor pull was canceled for that evening.
Saturday was great exibitors were in the field that afternoon and just a beautiful day, stayed at the tractor pull until about dark and froze out.
Headed home Sunday morning through that beatiful Illinois farm country, about a six hour drive but an easy one.
What a well orginized and great show.

I went to the show on saturday too. Though it was a nice show cause of all the demos going on and number and variety of tractors that you don't see at other shows. The rain and mud made it a little harder to get around but can't control that. Good thing they had concrete.

I was disapointed with all the golf carts and gators though. I saw more of them things than tractors. Yes they are real nice to get around with but thought they could have restriced their access in by the tractor displays and food areas. Also thought they could have marked the pickup points for the people wagons better too. Think I will stick to the smaller shows in the future.

That was the most old trators I have ever seen at a golf cart show! Seriously, though, it was a great show. I went saturday-beautiful weather, a little muddy in spots. Some areas west of town had well over 5 inches.
