jd #5 question...i broked it

what am i missing here. had to replace a couple sections on the bar today and went to test drive. hit a ground hog hole and the transport rod popped out and dropped the whole bar to the ground. this doo-dad bolts to the arm on the rear of the bar closest to the pitman side, and then the broke off hook piece attached to the bell crank arm on the mower. i cant remember what all was there. what am i missing??? heres a
pic there must be something between the broken hook and the link of chain.

There is a hook on that end the same shape as other end.I use a kwik link for tractor tire side chain as it works very well.Scott

What you need is on page 20-2 and 20-3 of the parts catalog. It make take awhile to download.

The other end that broke off resembles a "J" hook.

You should be able to fabricate a replacement piece.

Take a look at the one below; it just hooks into a hole.

aha, thats what i broke!! couldnt remember whatt all was there. crawled around in the field for a while looking for whatever i was missing but never fouund it. figures too, we are gonna have about a week of no rain, and i could have got hay cut. tahnks for the help!!!

How come nobody figures DEERE would still have parts for these old mowers?

bob, i am totally floored!!!!!! i called mother deere with your part number, they are in stock in indianapolis!!!! i will have them tomorrow. ( i ordered two). just plain amazing they would still have em available. thanks for your help!!!! glenn
