John Deere 300B operating question

I have a 1974 John Deere industrial 300b with a reverser.

Am I suppose to be able to come to a full stop without disengaging the clutch?

Also how are you suppose to work the reverser? Do I need to be at stop or just slow rolling?

You must disengage the clutch to stop. The reverser has only forward and reverse, no neutral. You can shift forward to reverse or reverse to forward with using the clutch. The rate of shift is adjustable. I would only do the shifting in the lower 4 gears. Some tractors have a lock out to prevent a f to r shift in high range.

The clutch setup on a tractor with a non electric reverser (like yours) the first 2 to 3 inches at the top are for the reverser..the clutch then pushes to the bottom for you pto or for changing gears...all you are doing by pushing the clutch 2 to 3 in is stopping fluid to reverser, if clutch is set up right...have one 401b and a 300b.. do i come to a stop, no, almost stopped, yes.. I run a 9 ft kuhn on the 401b and love the advantage of not having to shift gears..check yours and see if you can just move the clutch the small distance and stop tractor. oh yes both mine have neutrals and lock outs for neutral position..

MAY GOD BLESS THE USA

Thanks,

I do not notice any change only pushing the clutch in a couple of inches. I currently slow a bit and only use 1st and 2nd if I am going to be reversing. Otherwise it will throw me when going back and forth.

If anyone lives near Wilmington, Delaware and is willing to stop by and let me know if it is working right I would be willing to trade.
