low pressure hay balers???

Been looking for a cheap baler that I can use w/ my tractor (26HP). There are older ones that work w/ smaller tractors that are called low pressure (translation). Guess they don't pack the bales so tight. Anyone familiar with anything other than the normal balers? Here is a pic of one I found:

Buy most of our hay, but get quite a bit given just for picking it up. Wife and I just about 3 acres with rakes, forks, and a wagon. Can't really justify $4-10K in a round baler or $3k for a small square, but these things run at 1k +/-.

Look familiar?

That's a cute looking little thing, and looks like it is in good shape too. When I started haying on my own about thirty years ago I started out with a Ford model 250 baler that was probably about 25 years old, that I bought for $25.00 at an auction. I pulled and powered it with my 19 HP Kubota and it did just fine. A baler by itself doesn't take much power, but you need some weight if your land has significant slope to it.

That's the only one I have (stole it from an ad). Is/was there a baler in use in the States that makes looser packed bales than the normal square bale press, or the roundbale roller that you know of? Just trying to figure out if this is something I want.

Welger still makes balers, fixed chamber soft core bales i think.

Have never been around them to know much about them.

Book says there were 2 models, 47X47 (660lb bale) and 61X47 (1102) lb ) bale weights. Sold new for $3725. and 4167. Sounds like the bales would have been fairly tight but you probably could have released tension and lighter bales. Bob

Our Krone balers don't have the hard core that a lot of round balers have. The Krones are a fixed chamber and the centers do not roll the way the belt balers do. They have sort of a swirl pattern.

The machine in the first pic is sometimes referred to as a trusser or buncher, a kind of a low density baler really. That Welger type was popular in the east of England at one time, Welger is a German company, now taken over by Vermeer. They make very good fixed chamber round balers.
