Eyeball is a little sore....

I've had something in my eye since this weekend, finally gave in and went to a doc yesterday. She couldn't get it, so got me in to a specialist just down the road from work (got luky I guess) and today I took a break from work and went in. Only took about 15-20 minutes to be in and seen.

Funny part was, after it was all done, THEN I got a little light headed and dizzy with the cold sweats and whiter than a ghost. I sat there for another 1/2 hour to get my color back. Overall not too bad, my eye is just a little sore now. Doc said it looked like some metal that was starting to rust. After she got the peice out, there was a little bit of stuff left on my eye so she used some little buffer almost to get the rest of it out. Eye will be fine, just gonna take a day or 2 to heal I guess.

Carpenters get a lot of that from skilsaws cutting thru nails. I have had a few pieces of metal picked out from that.Wear eye protection mostly now. The old eye sure gets sensitive to light when the metal starts to rust.

Got some furnace flux embedded in my eye once. Woke up with that eye swollen shut. Eye dr. numbed my eye (about as pleasant as numbing teeth for dental work) and commenced pokin' around my eye with what looked like an ultrasonic dremel tool. Tears ran like a faucet (which I'm sure helps the process). Really makes a guy appreciate his sight.

And the MRI thing is true. The particles will take the most direct route to the magnetic field which could be right thru your brain! The person who would prep you for an MRI would ask about any metal on/in you.

Good vision,
Bill

I didn't get any kind of a prescription today. She gave me some sample drops, but they're just some plain drops nothing special.

Yesterday the other General Practitioner sent out a prescription that I never got around to picking up, and today the eye doc said to leave it there and not waste my money. It'll probably be bad enough when my bill finally gets here in 3-4 months....

I have now taken to wearing wrap around protection when grinding or cutting, I wear glasses normally and thought they would be ok but twice I have had small particles come between the lense and cheek and hit next to the eye so I have become cautious and besides it is the sensible thing for anyone to do.
Can't see much with a glass eye.

You work in a machine shop and you just now got your first piece of metal in the eye? I end up with 5 or 6 a year. Most I can get out myself but I have had to do the specialist and ER visits a few times. Use the drops and wear safety glasses all time. I do and I still get metal particles in my eyes. (prescription safety glasses)

I have had a forign body removed from my eyes 3 times so far. Recently I was using a side grinder with a wire brush & I felt a wire hit my arm. Looked but didn't see anything. Went on grinding but later I was bleeding from my arm. Kept on working & later that evening my arm ached a little. Slept good that night & it never bothered. Guess it is still in there.

Must be lucky I guess. I'm not sure if I did it at home or work, so I didn't bother with the workmans comp. Been working on so many projects at home lately, it's just too hard to say.
