Gonna Try It

Dunno,

Guess I'm getting old and soft.

There was a day not so long ago that I'd just yank the duals, bale the hay and then put the duals back on to plant wheat.

However, hub mounted duals and I just don't seem to see eye to eye. And, I don't think I wanna bale all that hay with an open station tractor.

Hope I don't end up regretting this setup. :>(

I use to bale with duals all the time Allan.

You really have to cramp it hard to get to where you are there. Rarely happens in the field.

My baler did have a longer hitch.

Go for it.

We bale with a 1086 with duals all the time. They are never taken off. Never had a problem with turning. If you get into a part of the field where it comes to a point and you can't turn, just back up then turn.

Some people make it into a bigger problem than it really should be. I wouldn't take them off for the world.

For some reason, something tells me that even if ALL of us had told you it was a bad idea..........you would have tried it anyway! No risky, no makey.
'Enjoy your posts. Go for it.

Allen, if you do take the duals off sometime, take some advice from someone who has a bad back and sore shoulder, and use your loader with the grapple claw to move and install the duals. You drive up to the dual, gingerly grab it with the claw and you have it trapped. My claw doesn"t have a lot of power so it won"t puncture the tire, but if your claw has any oomph at all, be careful. Naw, don't think so 'cause I've never done this before.

I've got another squawk box that I was just about to put on the little tractor.

But darn! I've got a lot of hay to put up and the idea of that open tractor without the cab kind of shut me off. :>(

Bolt or screw a piece of 3/16" steel rod to the sheetmetal of the baler where the wheel is close to touching. When the rod hits the lugs, it will make a terrible racket early enough (depending on the length of the rod) to warn you of the issue. A curb feeler in reverse! JimN

Do as you wish? I did twice first time no problem, second time only cost $650 for a new baler door. if it can happen it will here.

You're looking at this all wrong. This is a reason to buy a dedicated "bailer" tractor. Just set it up with singles and go.

You can do it. Some people leave the duals on to bale here. With your long straight windrows you will be fine. You don't have many of them little long dog leg field we have. Leave plenty of room on the ends and might not want to turn too sharp to get the next one, might have to get every other one. Good luck and let us know who it works out.
