gib key- got it out

I had to use LOTS of heat to get the hub to move. Polished the shaft before starting and ground a notch out of a peice of tube we had. Got it red and managed to pound the hub on more and got the key loosened up. By then the heat got to the shaft so we had to let it cool off again. Wouldn't budge so we heated it up again this time even more, and I kept the heat on it while my brother beat on the back of it with a chunk of steel, and then once we got it to a point we managed to get it with a puller.

I'll get the bearing changed out tomorrow...

Glad to hear that you got it....when everything is new and shiny, gib keys are a great, easy way to secure a hub to shaft...after years of dirt and corrowion they can be a buggar,BTDT. Most all OEMs used them but I have been told that Hesston made the most use of them.

If I recall correctly that's a model built by Hesston. Makes sense, as it seems like everything on this haybine is held with those gib keys. Rust is they're enemy...
