Trying to find a bolt

I have search the net, check local suppliers and have found nothing but people laughing at me. I need a l/h thread 3/4 -16 bolt that's 2-1/2 inch long, would like grade 8 but will take what I can get. Any have any ideal as to what mite use a bolt like this? I need it for a bush hog that no body can tell me what breed it is

Checked McMaster Carr www.mcmaster.com, bolt not available but stud is. Stud part number 95625A311, you need a nut part number 99891A175.

alot of local hardware stores have big bolt bins but most of us have gotten used to The Home Depot and they don't have much especially grade-8

Did I understand Left Hand Thread ? (l/h) If so I wonder why Left hand threads are required? High strength thread locker may fit the application if the bolts are not threaded into something other than nuts ( gearbox casting ...etc) If they must be Left hand threads maybe ready rod in L?H thread could be cut into pieces...nuts welded on ...etc. etc.
Good luck,
Andy

you have received some good information on sources for getting that proper bolt.

You are absolutely correct in wanting the proper bolt on that application... Those mowers are dangerous enough with the proper parts...

Hopefully, someone can help identify your mower. Is this a trail type or three point mower, and how wide of a cut does it have?? A picture would help;;;;;; Good chance that that someone on here has the mate to your mower....Sure would make things easier when it comes to chasing parts..

I'd go with McMaster-Carr or Fastenal. However, it might be easier if we knew where the bolt is used on the cutter. Might be able to find it easier that way.

This may work. Get a bolt that is too long so the shank area is the length you need and then go to your local machine shop and have them cut the bolt and then cut the threads you need on the shank area where there were no threads before.

I did a metric bolt deal where my guy made the threads that I needed.

My first priority would be the grade quality for the bolt. The vast majority of bolts and nuts come from Communist CHINA and are poor quality.
I would guess that a grade 8 Chinese bolt would be about as strong as a standard grade bolt Made in USA.
China doesn't pay much attention to our standards, and has the poorest grade steel in the world!
To further complicate the situation, Chinese threads are sloppy fit. With an American bolt and nut, when overtightened the bolt will break. Chinese threads will strip!
I would much rather find a used bolt rather then a new Chinese bolt.

Any bolt holding on a revolving blade needs thread direction such that the spinning blade tends to tighten the bolt. If one uses a right hand thread where left is needed, you will never be able to keep the bolt tight.

If you still havent found one, go to the local machine shop and have it made. Dont take long and may be cheaper than the hunt. I am lucky that I have a retired neighbor that likes to tinker in his home shop, (I helped build that shop) and he would make one overnight for me. Neighbors helping neighbors. Good luck--.
