engine water ingestion

I like many Farmall H and M owners launch our boats with our tractors. I seem to be the only one with water in the engine oil. There is no oil leaks outward from the engine so I don't know how it is getting in. The inspection plate for the clutch is missing on my unit. The crankcase vent hose is submerged very biefly. Thanks if anyone can help. Don Hyde

don, if you are gettng the crankcase vent submerged, at least on my m, it exits at the base of the engine block by the oil filter. you got to be pretty deep in the water. the rear main is probably where the water is getting in. the seal is designed to keep oil in. kind of a spiral screw cut in the crankshaft the pulls the oil back in the gallery. if you are that deep, you got half the clutch under water too. i dont think its doing the tractor any good under that much water. check your differential oil, prolly lot of water in there too.

The crankcase vent tube is there to allow air to enter the engine.

The other end of the ventilation system ends in the air cleaner tube. The air moving past the the fitting in this tube creates a partial vacuum drawing fumes out of the governor housing and valve cover. Only when blowby in an engine exceeds what can be drawn out through the air cleaner tube does the vent tube have air exiting there.
