2001 Chevrolet HD 6.0L Battery Light

Good afternoon,

As a long-time lurker here, I bet somebody knows;

Today I was returning from the WI state fair, pulling a 16' bumper stock trailer, when the battery light started coming on and going off. Did this all 150 miles home, but no drop in voltage at the gauge, no change in running characteristics, no nothing. Pulled off and checked belts, pulleys, etc for something broken or seized, no obvious culprits. Truck has 102k miles and other than the junk cast iron in the brake parts has been a really good, trouble-free truck.

It has done this a few times before, but usually only on a very wet morning and stops within 5-10 minutes of startup. I've always just chalked it up to a moisture issue that resolves on engine warmup.

Thoughts on causes and courses of action?

Thanks a lot,

Phil Crome

Check alternator output, check voltage of battery with engine off, and then at startup. Should be 12.6 volts off, 14.5 volts on.

I do not know if you can pull trouble codes for the battery light.

Got a 2001 2500HD w/ 6.0L it has had the same problem for close to 2 years replaced the alternator, replaced the battery, checked the connections, and all that good stuff. I was told those trucks had some issues with the dash??? I do know that flashing battery light is quite annoying. I will be interested in others input.
