How's This For A Sign?

The club president had a old thresher that needed a lot of repair before it could be used, so he painted it and put the new sign for the new showgrounds on top. Need to get final OK, but we were told we could park it on a neighbors property next to highway 92 for our new showgrounds. The building start date is Wednesday, so we are finishing up the restroom/showerbuilding and put up a screened kitchen area in the old machine shed for the food crew. It rained 2.8 inches there on Friday afternoon, and by Saturday morning, you could drive anywhere on the showgrounds, so hopefully rain during the show will never be a problem. It's gonna be a busy 2 weeks, but hopefully the building will be done when the crew pulls out. I'll try to give you all updates as I find out how work progresses. Chris

This sign has violated a few rules of good sign layout; The word home being read up from the bottom in a reverse diagonal. But the artist then makes that work by adding the windings on either side of the lettering. For some reason the word antique rolls upward. It may look better as a slight rocker. This is made to work with the scrolling under the raised part.Looks pretty good like that .Engine and tractor well done with nice style fonts for an antique look.Despite some unusual layout tecnique it is a well written sign .Even though the word home is reversed its not unpleasing to the eye.I would have done those two things different but it all works despite breaking a few "rules".What matters is it looks good when it was done.

Great sign. Our club uses a couple of old threshing machines for signs also. They are great attention getters. The only thing I would caution you would be that you need to be sure and anchor it down when you get in final position. Club down the road has had their threshing machine blown over twice in as many years. They placed their sign on top of the thresher like you did. We place our signs on the side of the thresher itself. We haven't yet had one blow over.

The club is presently located in Atkinson, Ill. This year may be the last show in Atkinson. The club was donated 40 acres north of Geneseo, Ill on Hwy 92. If the building project goes smooth and we can get things lined up, the 2010 show will be at the new showgrounds. We will make a decision in Sept before the show as to when we will move. Chris

I'm sorry to hear that. Hate to lose someone who has been coming to the show for that long. E-mail me with your problems with the show and see if we can work things out. Chris

Looks neat. There's about five old separators on a hillsdie south of Petoskey, MI on rt. 131, really gets your attention!
