Rims for John Deere 4020

Is there a split rim that is made for a John Deere 4020? I am trying to find a way to mount a 16 ply tire and its going to be tough sledding trying to mount one on a 1 piece rim.

Is there such an animal as a two piece rim in the 18.4-34 size?

Its not in the old 4020 parts book. Its not likely to be wedge mounted. Maybe some adapter that has flanges inside to bolt to the wheel center, like I used from Unverforth to mount 12.4 x 42 on my 4020.

There might be something from the construction industry or mining industry where that 16 ply tire was used. It would probably be easier to find something with an 8, 9, or 10 bolt center to fit a hub than to fit the JD wheel center.

Else you need some helpers, long pry bars and lots of tire soap taking care when needed to get the opposite side of the bead in the drop center of the rim to all the bead to be pried on.

I am not sure they will seat. We have some 18 plu 20.5 tires on a crane and they have a wedge shaped bead that sets on a tapered wedge locked on with a split ring. I would sure hate to have to put them on over a rim. The beads aren't shaped like a tractor tire bead, they are a lot wider where the bead sets on the rim.

Well actaully these tires DO in fact have a one piec rim!! But as you mentioned the bolt pattren was either 8 or 10 bolts, not sure which though.

What i have now is the standrad weighted hub where the out wheel is held in place by abut 8 bolts on the perimeter. Is there some sort of hub or adapter that would fit on my axle that would mount this tire some kind of way??

Well actually these tires are on a one peice rim . The Man said they came of some sort of Ford. So there is no way to use the wheel or "Rim" unless I had the hub that fit the axles.
I am wanting to take this tire off and put it on my standard 18.4-34 16 inch John Deere rim. Can this be done?

There are 12 bolts and wedge clamps on my 4020 original rear rims. They depend on the V ridges of the rim. That stuff gets in the way of a split rim split in the middle, might work with a three piece rim where only the bead edge is locked in place with a lock ring like my '65 F-350 had, but such a rim won't be cheap or any easier to work with than working those stiff tires onto a standard rim.

There are hub adapters to fit the 4020 axle, 4-3/8" diameter or 3-3/8" diameter, I forget which. Both Deere and aftermarket to fit 8, 9, or 10 bolt rims. You loose a lot of weight without the wheel center, about 500 pounds a wheel. I've seen those hubs at salvage yards in Sikeston, MO and at farm sales. The are often used for duals on steel wheels. It may be possible to put the hub on the outside of the wheel and slide the wheel over the original wheel center to keep the weight of the original wheel centers.

I've got a set. Actually on a W9 and not sure if it's got 18.4's or 16.9's. I know they fit on a 4020 because another W9 I have has a rim off a 4020 on it. I've never seen another set like them, not really a split rim, but a 2 piece, like semi trucks use with the removable bead. So yes, something exists, don't know how you would find them though.
