White fork lift part2

I talked to the owner of the White lift over the phone and it sounds like a good machine. The only problem he talked about is the hydraulic tank has a crack in the weld.

Looking at the photo it looks like a lighter lift then advertised at 5000lb rating and I'm wondering about the stage hight at 10'. It don't look like it will give a full 10' lift.

What do you guy's think about this one? I'm going to look at it tomorrow night. If it seams sound would you buy it for the asking price and upgrade latter if needing more capacity and lift hight?

p.s. there mite be a Hyster available at this link do you think this is a better buy? grandrapids.craigslist.org/bfs/1286366396.html

The White indeed looks to have a mast capable of 10 foot of lift. As for the weight capacity, from the picture I would say it's a 2 to 3 thousand pound capacity but then I'm not familiar with the Whites personally. At the asking price, if it runs and lifts it would be a bargain. Remember, it appears to have cushion tires so it's only useable on a smooth concrete surface. It should have a plate on it somewhere showing the lift capacity etc.
On the Hyster, if it does have a three stage mast it should have about a 15 foot lift height. I would also guess it has a side shift carriage since it has a hose reel mounted on the mast. It possibly had different attachments on it over the years with that hose reel. Lift capacity, judging by the counterweight I would say a 3 to 4 thousand pound, but again the plate will tell the story. Price sounds quite reasonable. From the pictures, it is also a cushion tire machine so it's only good on a smooth concrete surface. The tires on this one look very worn, and you will discover replacements to be quit pricey.
The plus on the Hyster, you will probably have better luck locating parts for it in the future versus the White.
HTH.

Something else I should have mentioned. The lift capacity shown on the plate will rated at a 24 inch load center. In other words, 24 inches out from the heel of the forks. The lift capacity does not drop as you lift like construction type lifts do. In other words, if it will safely pick up 5 thousand pounds 3 feet off the ground, that holds true for the total lift height capacity of the machine.

Thanks, I did get it overall its in good shape Theres a crack in the frame from lifting over max rated capacity I think and It has bean converted from gas to LP. It did lift the rear end of my truck of the ground with no problem sow it at least will work some what.

I tried to raise the stage all the way up but theres a leak in the hydraulic tank close to where the crack in the frame is sow its low on hydraulic oil. The stage did stick when trying to lower it without weight on it but did go down.

Over all I think I did good only time will tell.
