2001 Chevy Pickup brake leak

Just climbed into my 2001 Chevy pickup, and pushed the brakes to the floor. I traced the leak to what appears to be a pump? in the frame, almost below the gas tank. At least 4 brake lines go into it. Anyone know what the heck that thing is? Electric brake booster? Any experience with this thing leaking, and changing it?

Thanks

I just had my ABS pump replaced. It was located in the frame rail on the driver side under the cab. Got estimates ant where from $750.00 to $1100. dollars. The garage in a nearby town put a gaurentted one off a salvage truck on for $420.00 BTW It is on a 1500 sieara GMC.

The technical term from GM is "brake pressure modulating valve", or BPMV for short. On the BPMV is the ABS control module. Last I knew each one was about $1K new. I have installed used valves with good results. If you try to do it yourself, you will need a scan tool that can command the valve into bleed mode. If you don't, you will never get all of the air out.

My 2001 GMC did the same leak but there was nothing wrong with the unit, it was the lines rusted through and leaking..mechanic put in new lines, bled system and I was on my way..$385 later..just lines and compression fittings

Thanks for the responses. Now at least I know it's the ABS unit under there. I sure hope it's one of the lines and not the unit. Tommorrow I've got to get a bright light under there and see if I can tell where the leak is.

this worked for me also. The brake lines rust through & leak & fluid runs along the lines making it look like the unit is dripping. Luckily brakes went out at home so we could work on it ourselves - $40.
