Setting up my flail mower

I have been mowing with a rotary mower for a lot of years. I bought a flail mower a few years ago, and would like to give it a try. When setting up the mower I figured the mower back end rides on the back drum. On the front is the mower held off the ground by the lift arms, or does the front drag on the ground? Thanks for any help. Stan

Stan,

There are two ways to adjust the mower: The roller position and the top link of the three-point attachment. The roller is your coarse adjustment.

I'm sure you will be digging the ground long before the front of the the mower bottoms out.

Stan, I don't have an owners manual on the flail mowers that I use so I can't tell you how they are supposed to be set up. I simply put tractor and mower on a flat surface, then with lift all the way down, use top link to adjust how high I want the grass to be cut. By adjusting the top link out this raises the cutting height. I don't let the side skids touch the ground. My mowers side skids are usually about an inch and a half from the ground. Then be sure to lock top link where you want to cut. I then measure the distance between the top link pins so that I know what to adjust the top link back to after using other implements on tractor.
