im going to go pick up a 26 foot pup trailer tommorow, its a enclosed van for storage, never had one before now i got a naging question, my peterbilt is a regular semi tractor, tandem drive axles, i slid my fifth wheel all the way to the rear, which on this truck places it directly between the 2 axles, i need to know for sure if i can hook up to this pup trailer, is there enough room between its kingpin and its landing gear for my rear axle and flaps to clear the trailer, failure is a 450 mile trip for nothing, that kind of snafu could cost me my job

YOU REALLY DON'T KNOW, UNLESS YOU MEASURE FIRST.SOME PUPS HAVE THE LANDING GEAR MOUNTED CLOSER FORWARD THAN OTHERS.SOMETIMES YOU CAN GET BY,BY REMOVING MUDFLAPS, CLEARANCE WISE,AND SOMETIMES YOU CAN'T.MARK

It will be tight if it works. My pup,old CF,only works on a single axle.

Take the wrenches with you and unbolt the landing gear after you hook it up If it won"t clear. Or just call them and ask them to measure the length from the front then compare it to one you know will clear. Will your 5th wheel unbolt and move back to another set of holes, or the slider track do that?

It is really hard to say for sure without some measurements.

On the other hand we pull our 28' pups (with and with out saftey legs) everyday with tandem axle trucks but our mud flaps come off.
With the mud flaps on it is real close.

A 26' pup may be a real challange with a screw axle truck.

thanks for the replies guys boss ordered me to just go get the #$@% thing, so with my fingers crossed im leaving in a couple of hours and hope i can get this thing with my tractor acording to the paper work its a '87 year model i can remove the mud flaps, [ standard factory peterbilt logo style on chrome hangers] cant move the fifth wheel any fruther back, its against the rear stop and i have low bed ramps on the frame behind that , also handy for those trailers with fixed landing gear that still lack 4 inches after youve already dumped the suspension lol ]

When ordering a trailer you can tell them how far to set the king pin back from the front of the trailer. There fore they vary in that respect and then the distance to the dolly legs matters a lot. So I wish you luck.
