The owner of two of my hayfields wants to get rid of woodchucks. He has already shot some but wants to get all of them. He asked me about blocking both ends of their hole and I told him that it wouldn't work, they would just dig out around the obstruction. He is not a have-a-hart type of guy if you know what I mean. How do you eliminate your woodchucks?

I use a combination of a .22 and Conibear traps #110 or #120. the traps usually kill them immediately and you don"t have to spend much time hiding them or anything, just put one over each hole and fence staple it to a piece of 4x4 about 2" long. Last year I nailed 15 in the yard, heavens knows how many on the rest of the property.

I use Revenge smoke bombs which you light and throw in the hole and block both ends and the bomb makes sulfur smoke and suffocates them. Very fast and easy and the woodchucks are pre-buried, so no disposal problems. The bombs are about $5 for a 4 pack.

When I was a little bit younger, we made gunpowder pipe bombs and threw them in the holes, lit a long fuse. Earth-shaking, PETA killin.'

Showcrop,
Gallon of ammonia before sealing the second hole. heavier than air , works its way to the lowest part of hole. Ammonia doesn't breath very well. This has worked well for me....get ammonia in any grocery store. There are more fun ways but......
Good luck,
Andy

You'll never get all of them, but if you can see them drop down a hole, take a plastic milk jug, and shove it down the hole, after throwing in one of the sulfur bombs or road flares. You should block the other entrances to the den in the same way, shove that milk jug down, then shovel it shut. Some dens can have 4-5 holes, some only 1. Shoot daily, and you'll see how many there really are. My best total one year was 88, on our 190 acre farm, and that's only hunting half of it. Others that hunted that same year had similar totals!

Pipe bombs will get you a very personal visit from ATF and homeland security these days. Not to mention they take out people just as good as they do woodchucks. The less attention you get while getting rid of woodchucks the better.

Thanks a lot guys for all the suggestions. Some how knowing the guy I think He'll have a Rodenator inside of a week.

Way simpler way. Pour about a quart of gas in each hole. By the time you get the gas in all the holes, stand back and toss a match in. Flame will shoot about 5 foot out of each hole, end of problem.

May want to pour a little more than a quart.

Be safe!!!!
