Any Dodge Men Out There

Any Dodge men out there that can tell me where to get at the airconditioner drain line to un plug it. My step son came in night before last from Texas with wet floor mats. He called back to Texas and they told him they were sure it was a plugged vent line and to bring it in when he got back. Going back into the hot weather without his airconditioner is not setting well with him at the moment. Took 20 hours to get here in North West Ohio.

I was hoping it would be a simple task even though it is a Dodge. :)^D

Alternately and not as easy to fix is that the heater core could have sprung a leak. In that case the wetness in the floor mats would be anti freeze. And his windshield would be steaming up.
Good luck

I did not go out and smell the inside of the truck but I would guess the dealers service department would have quizzed him about it.

Had the same thing happen on my Stratus, but if this is a Ram . . .

My Ram's an '03 3500 with the whiz-bang dual controls, but as far as the drain under the evaporator, I don't think it's any different.

On the passenger side firewall, maybe 12-15" directly below where the accumulator lines passes through to the evaporator, there's just a little black plastic fitting protruding through, maybe 3/4" wide, sticking out not a whole half inch forward from the firewall. If his is laid out the same as mine, that's the drain he's looking for. looks like a bit of a flange with just a stub of pipe sticking out. It's likely more accessible from underneath, but if he can get a pick of some shape into it to open up any clog, that should get it started. What will usually plug them up is getting an assortment of bugs, dust and other debris in there that will float into the tube when he gets into defrost or A/C mode. Then once they flow in a little bit and get damp they start sticking together and growing mold. I expect you raised a bright boy and he'll understand that what he's trying to do is drag stuff out through the drain.

Duzzat make sense?

Makes sense!

Can't take credit for raising him but he is a bright boy. I give the total credit to Dixie.

We will take a look as soon as he has time to go out and unlock the truck. He brings his work with him.

Some of what his students have to say below.

11/15/07 POS3381 2 4 4 2 Political Theory is an excellent class! It's reading intensive and largely discussion based. You will learn so much about the evolvement of political thought that will challenge the way you think about things. Tests are mostly essay application questions. Read Watership Down before you take the class to help yourself out.
11/5/06 HIS2310 2 5 5 4 Don't sleep or talk in class. Don't be late, he locks the door. Other than that he's tough, but fair. There is no hmwk or quizzes, and only a few exams, so take good notes and go over them after every class. I wouldn't recommend taking Murphy as a freshman....I did and was pretty overwhelmed. He's a great professor though. No complaints.
11/10/05 HIS 3343 2 5 5 5 Dr. Murphy is my all-time favorite professor at HPU. He genuinely cares about his students and is an EXCELLENT history professor. He makes learning enjoyable and classes are interested and fun. He's always great for a laugh.

l Sci 3 5 5 4 Dr. Murphy makes you think but he is an awesome man that really cares about his students.
9/2/05 US History 1 4 4 3 Don't talk in class! He'll remember forever. But he knows his stuff and can sing "Old Man River" better than anyone in all of academia.
Dr. Murphy is one that you don't want to take if you want to skate by and get an easy grade for a general ed history course. However, if you'd like to gain something from the course, Murphy will require it of you. Tests are multiple-choice and essay...and all you have to do is demonstrate thought.

We've had an ongoing problem with the A/C drain on our 95 Dodge plugging up. Its located as described below. There are several ways to try and clear it.

Our mechanic used a piece of 1/4 in copper tubing "engineered" to fit on an air compressor hose, worked that up in the drain as far as he could, then blew air up in the drain. That worked a couple of times, but then failed to clear the line. He also used a piece of wire to try to work up into the drain with limited success.

The last time it plugged, I tried a coat hanger and two other types of wire with no success.

I then taped a piece of 2 in. flexible hose to the end of the shop vac hose, turned the vac on and got the end of the flexible hose over the drain and got some good vacuum on it. That finally cleared the drain.

Driving with no A/C isn't fun and if the drain is plugged it will literally flood the interior. BTDT too many times.

I have a 98 dodge 1 ton that was soaking the passenger side floor mats. The stub drain pipe was not plugged. The water was simply being blown back in to the vehicle while driving. I clamped a hose on to the stub that is on the right side fire wall just above the frame and turned the other end down so it would not blow back in.

Dick,
You need to borrow that history book and read it from cover to cover. I bet it would change some of your views.

Golly, Tom. I've browsed the 3-volume Dodge Ram 2500/3500 Service Manual from one end to the other and used several sections of it quite hard. I learned a few things from it, but nothing that would change any of my views.

If you know everything, why did you waste your money on the book? You should notify Chrysler immediately, and tell them to call you if they have any mechanical or egineering problems. Congratulations! You have a bright future. Don't mention your like for F-12s and 14s though as that may tarnish your credibility.

Golly gee whillikers, Tom, there ya go again!

Apart from admiring Bigdog's find this morning, I don't know that I've ever expressed an opinion, favorable or not so, about an F-14. Certainly none about an F-12

Did you skip your nap this afternoon? What about your meds?

Do like Nancy says and stick a shop vac over the drain. The water as it goes out under suction will pull some of the leaves, bugs, dirt, etc that's plugging the drain. Then tell him to keep all of the leaves, sticks, etc cleaned out from the area between the hood and base of the windshield.
