ford 4 cyl. side mount dis gold jub? Misses, runs rough, fouls plugs under heavy load. New plugs, wires, points, condenser, and cap. did same thing after 1 hr work

Maybe the carb isn't set right?
Is it smoking? Blue smoke = rings. Black smoke = Too rich a fuel mixture.
What kind of fouling on the plugs? Oily or sooty?

What's the fouling look like. Wet and oily is loss of oil control in the rings or possibly worn valve guides. Since you say it runs ratty under load, I'd suspect the rings. Valve guides leak oil mostly at idle and low part throttle when the manifold vacuum is high.If it's black and sooty, the mixture is too rich. Check the carb adjustments including the float level.

What does the spark look like? It should be FAT AND BLUISH-WHITE, the color of lightning. If it's not then check the point setting, the point condition( burnt, corroded, oily). Make sure the timing is correct and the advance is working. Check the distibutor bushing/shaft for wear.

Need more info as the others have said to be able to help you help your self. What point gap did you use?? What plugs did you use?? What do the plugs look like wet and oily or ???? You say runs rough does it smoke etc. etc. etc

are you using champion plugs? if so, go to the archives for tractor talk and type in champion plugs and read those posts. i also had bad luck with champions, especially in small engines.

If you're running cheap gas put some octane boost in it. It will cure the problem of plug fouling.

Tell us the brand and number of the new plugs.Your plugs should be 2 heat ranges higher with the gas we have now. What gap did you set the points at.
