Cordless Impact Wrenches

Since everyone's talking about these cordless impact wrenches in the other post, I'm wondering which one everyone recommends . I've heard of them and seen a few in stores , but I've never actually seen one in operationor used one. But I'd like to get one for small jobs so I don't have to run my air hose out side the shop , or across the floor , etc. I mechanic on lawnmowers a lot and maybe take a tire off here and there and other fixit jobs around the house , so I therefore, don't need a big expensive fancy one . But at the same time I want a decent one that can do just about anything that I want it to do. So what kind of cordless impact wrenchs do you guys recommend ? Why ?

Thanks ,
Whizkidkyus.

I have a snap-on 3/8 and 1/2. They are good but expensive. Somebody bought them both then decided not to pay for them, so after slight use the dealer got them back. So I bought them from the dealer for the remainder owed. Buddy has a 1/2 inch Dewalt that he likes, doesn"t have as much snort though.

One thing to consider is if you already have cordless tools, can you buy the same brand impact so you can swap batteries. I think they all will perform about the same.

I LOVE my snap on battery impacts ! I have the 3/8 ,,my fav ,,and 3 , 1/2 impacts . Couldn't talk myself into getting rid of the older models as they updated . Pricy ,,you ,,handy oh yea,,I hardly touch my air impacts anymore unless it's something really stubborn . Snap on 1/2 drill is a hog too. Same batteries ,,they also have a sawzall out too, it's my my to get list . I have a I/R 3/8 14 volt impact and a 3/8 ratchet, real handy !

The friend I mentioned with the Dewalt is a carpenter buddy. He is Dewalt everything, they are good stuff. He got this 18v impact for christmas, and had to bring it to the shop to show me how much better it is then my snap-on. Now, for some reason in a collection of odds and ends, I have a 1/2 to 1/2 adapter that allowed us to hook the two head to head. One night, after a few brews, we performed some tests. The snap-on won out with a 1/2 charged battery to his full charged battery. The funniest part was my 14v 3/8 would hang with his 1/2. Now this was for fun and I know there s a difference in practical use, but it was still funny..

We used the Dewalts in the hauling Business and I also have my own Makita.. Dewalt wins hands down, for torque, battery life, and durability. The makita is a toy. (14 volt makita kinda apples to oranges but a buddy bought a larger Makita and it was a LOT of $$ for not much better performance.)

Ingersol Rand has the highest torque rating of any on the market at 350 ft. lbs.

If you can afford it, the Snap-on 1/2" is the best going. It warrentied as well. I love mine and use it all the time.

What about the 12 v dc ones that you can but to keep in your car or the 120 v ac ones that you can also get for home use ? Are these any good ? I've thought about getting both of the above. But what brand ?

Buddy of mine bought standing grain bins a few years ago. I helped him a few days take'n the them down. We could count 3 layers of paint on them. He had 2 1/2" dewalts with 6 batteries. They never let us down. This has been the only time I have been aroung cordless wrenches and I was very impressed with what they would do.

Just looked at Lowes website for impact wrenches . I know that Lowes is usually higher than everyone else ,but still at those prices ,I guess I won't be getting one anytime soon. No matter what kind.

I just looked at the impact wrenches at TSC . They're cheaper . Take a look at the page and tell me what you think of the Clarke 120 v one for $29.99 or the Kawasaki 120 v for $69.99 or the Masterhand 19 v cordless for $99.99 . These prices fit my budget more but now that I'm getting laid off I still won't be able to get them for a while as I have to keep a tight lease on money like everyone else has said about theirselves. But are these brands any good ? Are they worth their prices ? Is Clarke brand any good? I'd like one to use so I don't have to turn on the compressor everytime I need an impact wrench and drag the air hose everywhere.

Thank you ,
