Governors/Carburteor

I have a neighbor who has a Farmall Super H that will run great, and has plenty of power as long as you keep it revved up at least half throttle, but when you idle it down low the sound of the engine starts coming and going. Is it the Governors starting to go bad, or the carb. needs adjusting? If it was to be the Governors going bad, will a set of Governors from a regular Farmall H fit in a Super H, and if it's the Carb. needing to be adjusted, where do I start adjusting? How far in, or out should the fuel screw, main jet screw, and the idling screw be turned to, to get him a place to start at?

You may have a clogged carb on the low idle side. Very common on RV gensets that do not get used enough. Some fuel cleaner most of the time will clear things up.

Hello John69,
You can start with the idle mixing screw at 1 1/2 turns and the high one at 1 turn.
When the engine is HOT adjust the idle first, then adjust the high speed this way.
There are differences between carburator adjustments, but here is one method you can try.
Turn the screw in (LOAD ON) untill the engine starts to miss. Note the position of the screw slot. Turn the screw out untill the engine starts to miss while counting the turns.
Go in with the screw 1/2 the amount of turns.
If it took 2 turns go in 1 between the 2 settings.
Guido.

i have 1950 farmall h that ran great when i used for the first time in about 4 years but when parked it and was going to use it again for the second time, it started run like someone was constantly revving the tractor up and down, but i was not touching the throttle, at idle it revs up and down when it goes down it almost seems as if its going to shut of the revvs back up, seems like carb adjustment, carb clogged up or governor problem, kind of seems like same problem, any suggestions?
