Tractor Radios

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good radio repair shop?

I'm talking about the older cab and/or fender mounted ones found on tractors from back in the 60-70's time frame...

My friend has a large IH collection & I have several JD & MM's with non-working radios...

Thanks,
Howard

Guys that work on that type of stuff are really hard to find anymore, at least here in the TX Panhandle anyway. I used to know a feller that would work on anything electronic. He retired a few years back and has since passed away. He told me that there was just not any money in electronic repair anymore. He did it just as a hobby more or less.

You might try a CB radio shop. Many large truck stops will have or know where someone who fixes CB's is. Good chance if the CB radio folks can't actually repair your radio, they may know someone who can.

Howard,
Get a copy of Hemmings Motor News. They have lots of advertisements from outfits that repair car radios. Probably the same chassis as some car radio, just in a different housing for tractor use.
You might want to carefully take them apart and check for broken or loose connections and oxidized switch contacts. 60's and 70's radio will be transistor, and unless abused with high voltage, reverse polarity or moisture, should be easy to get working again. Caig Labs De-Ox-It is the best contact cleaner I have found.
Today I rebuilt the noisy power supply in the radio out of my 1950 Dodge and repalced a couple of tubes. A good voltmeter, soldering iron, service info (off eBay), and a few parts made it good as new again.
Music or news when driving a car or tractor is nice and hard to do without. Good luck!
Josh
