good motor oil link

And what does all this mean?My truck new after break in was run a long time on Pennziol then I became friends with a National sprint car champion who was sponsered by quaker state so I switched for 80,000 miles to Quaker. Now It has Castrol Oil in it the last 30,000 or so. point is it has nearing 220,000 miles on it,uses no oil between 5000 mile oil changes and has plenty of power and runs good. This is a Ford 460 CI. Engine.I am not a believer in reports from a so called expert on the evels of using oil other than thier preference except I would draw the line sat using reclaimed oil such as used to be for sale in my youth. My big truck,a diesel has never in it's 170,000 mile life had any thing but Shell Rottella T in it and all my vehicles have Napa filters on them, not to say that they haven't had other brands in thier lifetime for filtering.I don't see any thing wrong with Oils from Wal-mart.They have to be as good as Carquest,Auto Zone,Pep Boys, etc. Now these places the Chinese and Indians etc. really pander to.

Shell, pennzoil and Quaker State are all the same company--sopus. I assume some of these oils are the same. How would a person learn which of these oils are identical?

Go to Google and type in "Bob is the oil guy". When that search comes up on Google, hit "Welcome". When the site comes up, on the left side of the page there will be a main menu. Click "oil forums". Do a bunch of reading on the subjects before posting. Excellent site of information.

Now wait a minute!

You are going to drive the Oil Fanatics in to fits of apoplexy by even suggesting that anything but the latest or FACTORY recommended type/brand/weight etc., is anything.....but acceptable.

I have recommended using Common Sense....the same thing Ben Franklin recommended to people 200+ years ago....it was mostly ignored then, and is totally ignored now.

You have Freudian analcompulsives that quake in fear of what might happen to the engine or transmission if the Lube God is offended. They"ll refer to their copy of the Hold Writ (owners manual) and seek to find the exact same lubricant called for.......even if the manual is 50-60 years old.....simply because; THAT IS WHAT THE BOOKS SAYS! And such logic is nothing but stupidity. There...I said it, people who commit such acts are STUPID.

Who died and made me god of intelligent decisions? Nobody had to die or appoint me god of anything.......just dig your head out of your exhaust orifice and use it to rationalize the answer.

All national commercially branded motor oils and lubricants are of high quality and many of them are produced in the same refinery"s. Exxon, Mobil, Valvoline, Quaker, Pennzoil...the list goes on ad nauseum,....pick any of them and rest assured that your machine will be well served. If the bucket or can or barrel says: "Compatible with" or "Replaces" then that is just what the hell it means......not "Inferior to" or "Guaranteed Destruction".

There are people who will always believe Hitler was right and likewise, there are people who will always buy into the Oil Hysteria myth....it"s nice to know that a few folks are smarter than that.

Was in an auto parts store today and looking for some 30 wt. non-detergent. They had a brand named "Slippery Stuff" or something like that. It didn't even have an API rating on the bottle. Guess they probably figured to join the crowd and throw standards to the wind.

Hay guys if you want a real supprise type in API OIL STANDARDS. ALL the current standards are for 1995 and newer engins. So if you have an older engin than 1995 you will have a hard time finding the right oil now.If you like me I need straight 40 weight for an older diesel and cant find any, the only thing that comes close is EXON XD 40 will keep the oil pressure up, Rotella 40 ran 15 min, had to shut it off, down to 10 psi oil pressure, 1 week later found the Exon oil changed it now it will run a day in 90 deger heat and keep 50 psi, everyone is having the same problem. If you have older equipment you will have to do some looking, and help from all of our brother farmers out there.

In the 60s and 70s I was very active in engine
rebuilding, (today, at almost 70 years old, i've
done everything from lawnmowers to locomotive
diesels) and you could always tell an engine
that had used Pennzioil, as it would be full of
a grey sticky sludge.I've never used it or
recommended it, or any of the "dime store oils"
sold by places like Wally World. Recently, at a
farm store I saw 2-1/2 gallon containers of Shell
Rotella, and the fine print said, "Packaged by
Pennzoil". Sounds Scarey to me.

Hey,mmidlam. I'm not trying to convince any one that one brand is better than another because in my opinion they are not, except for maybe reclaimed oil and "Castrol" for sure.Sopus probably is a wall street head banger organization who is in the oil refining buisness for the "money" only and gives a Rats A$$ about what they produce only as long as it meets minimum standards and sells.Standards are set by some one who has my interests at heart I truly hope. That said I don't try to nor want to convince any one what oil is best for thier vehicle. I'm just trying to fit in this forum and tell my life's experience for the vehicles I own.My one preference was to help a friend become more of a millinaire. If you followed the"World Of Outlaws" sprint car series you could figure out who he is and finally for the last few years I have come to prefer "Castrol" for the same reason's ,to help a favorite become a larger than life figure on the NHRA Funny Car series,as if he needs any help,LOL. Truthfully my old 460 ci. pickup probably would run well on any current brand of standard meeting Oils. My diesels I would hesitate changing from Shell Rotella T. 20/50 as that is all they have ever had in them and if it's not broke, don't try to fix it.
