John Deere 410 backhoe Engin stopped by lack of fuel supply

Dear, Members!
I just purchased a used John Deere 410 backhoe and was operating about 2 hours or so then engine stopped.
I tried to find what cause it is and finally found the diesel fuel tank just below half tank and it didn’t supply fuel to the fuel pump enough because of gravity fuel supply even remain the diesel fuel little less than half tank.
Is it normal? If say so then it is bad design I ever seen and should be installed an electric fuel pump between the fuel tank and mechanical fuel pump.
Your comment will be appreciated.

I don't know offhand if it has a diaphragm lift pump ahead of the injection pump, as some DEERE engines do. A quick look at jdparts.com would verify that.

However, there IS a lift pump inside the main injection pump which may have failed or you may have clogged filters or a tiny air leak in one of the fuel lines.

Yes! It has a diaphragm lift pump ahead of the injection pump. Is it problem?

check the amount of fuel that comes out of the tank.the tank could have junk in it that stopped the flow

410 has two fuel pumps; one on the side of the engine and one built into the fuel-injection pump. Engine-mounted pump is a diaphram pump and works off the engine-camshaft. Fuel pump inside the fuel-injection pump is a rotary-vane pump and turns anytime the fuel-injection pump is turning.

There is no design problem; the system works fine when parts aren't clogged or broken. You might want to check the fuel fitting at the bottom of the fuel-tank first, since it can clog fairly easy if there is no screen on it.

The two main problem areas for fuel are #1 the fuel fitting at the tank-bottom, and #2 the plastic dampener inside the fuel-injection pump (if it's a DB or JDB Stanadyne/Roosamaster).

Thank you for comment
When fuel tank was less than half, it didn’t have fuel pressure while pumping manually.
I fill up the diesel gas and bleed air between the tank and engine attached fuel pump (quantity air came out) and rest of connect (Fuel filter and injector pump) then fuel pressure was normal and the engine was running well.
I am going to wait until use of gas below the half tank. If it had same problem again, then probably need to be replaced engine attached fuel pump.
Thank you again,
JKK
