Has anyone ever change out the main bearings in a John Deere H? How big of a job is this? Does anyone know where I can get new bearings at? I have been told that nobody has them.

Do a online search for Sharps they have the bearings. Or also search for Paul"s Rod & Bearing or aka Heartland Tractor they can exchange with you and repour them.

I am rebuilding a 1939 "H" and bought the Right and Left main bearings (Babbit) from Sharp's ..the cost was $65.00 each plus shipping. I pressed them into the housing myself and took the crank and bearings to my machine shop. They machined the crank and bored the bearings to match for $115.00. Just like new.
Good Luck, Rich

Sounds like repops are availiable now. Before those I had my crank grinder grind or build up the crank as needed to match up to some easy to get bronze bushings which he also fit.
