Jack choice

If for the first time you had to buy a jack what would it be? One that would be of most use to you, bottle, scissor, farm jack or other.

I have Hi lift, bottle, a 3T floor jack, and a little floor jack that I can throw in the front basket of the Honda. Good for some implement tire cahnges in the field. I use all of them about equally. You can't just have one. That said, I'd give up the floor jack last. Lose the scissor.

I'll second what thurlow said. As a matter of fact, that is exactly what I did. Over the years, I've picked up others. But for a long time, it was the dangerous high lift jack.

I agree with the others,I've got a couple of each and I use the floor jack the most and that would be the last one that I would give up also.

As others indicate on the concrete, a 3.5 ton floor jack. the Hi Lift is a great tool if you respect it and are safety oriented, and believe in good practice. (otherwise leave it alone) JimN

Well... I use the pallet forks on the loader if it will lift what I need lifted. If ti won't, then a 2.5 ton floor jack. 20 ton bottle jack is the last resort.

as others have said you can't get by with just 1 jack, also it depends on why you want a jack if your going to work on the garage floor on your car get a 3.5 ton floor jack, if you need something to haul around the farm nothing beats a hy-lift jack,[ learn how to properly use it and be safe] if you need to lift heavy tractors trucks ect get a 20 ton american made hydraulic jack, [ my personal experience is that the china man's junk jack will work right about twice then it will leak down while in use or wont lift at all

I'd like to know where you get an american made bottle jack, or any other jack for that matter?

Last one I bought 2 years ago was a StrongArm, made in China. So far it's been OK, but it's starting to leak on the pump plunger...

The no-name stuff only lasts a day.

there available thru automotive equipment dealers, be prepared to shell out some bucks thou they arnt cheap " good jacks arn't cheap cheap jacks arnt good" sorry i just had to post that lol try a independent shop and ask who in your area supplies his lifting equipment he may even have a sales brochure in the shop

I think if you take a harder look at what you're buying you'll find that most of the old american made brands are now made in china. They're better than the cheap ones, but not what they were.

I buy that stuff through napa or parts for trucks. Sometimes StrongArm branded, sometimes napa brand, made by strongarm, in china.

That's about all anyone uses around here other than the cheap stuff...
