Went to Archbold

The wife and I went to the sale at Archbold Tuesday. First time I'd been there in probably close to 20 years. Only about half the stuff that they used to have. WAY fewer tractors. Only about 40. Didn't even stay to see them sell. Only ones that caught my eye were a Massey 35 diesel,a White 6065 with just over 1000 hours,a nice Oliver 1650 diesel and a White 2-135. Probably should have bought a Case IH 2 row chopper head out of the absolute row. It was a parts head, went for $50. Don't know if 60-75 would have gotten it or not. Too late now. Don't know when I'll ever go back, but it was fun to go again for old times sake.

I dont know what happeded to tractors. Tri green only has about 20 tractors, someone said they used to have 100 (maybe more). Makes for a long day when you drive 2 1/2 hours and they dont have anything you're looking for and its 20* outside.

Hey 4010puller I'm only about 30 minutes from Tri green next time your this way let me know I'll buy you a cup of coffee over there and your right I go by there on the way to Columbus every once and awhile and they are down I think they scrapped a lot when steel prices got high. CT

My dad was a dealer back in the 1960"s up to the late 70"s and we were at every sale since i was 8 yers old at Y&F.I"m 59 now an haven"t been there in 3 or 4 years. It"s hard to keep a consignment auction going. They had a jocky from illinois bringing a lot of stuff in,but he started his own sale. The canadian stuff then took over, but it"s mostly ruff stuff they can"t sell at home either.Haun from canada always brought several semi loads to greens.Dick always bought like crazy to keep the lot full.Dick ran a lot of his best buyers off buy jacking every dollar he could get and stabbing people in the back to make a buck.He would bid against you at a farm auction then expect you to buy at his sale.I"ve seen him and his boy cursing many people over the years.Since he left i don"t see much difference he still tells the auctioneers what to do and what to sell. It"s still a pretty grumpy place, even the auctioneers are nasty sometimes to the crowd.

I haven't been there in several years, I went 5 or 6 times a year for 10 years. Fascinating crowd, everything from junk dealers who looked like they were homeless to millionares. I think the high price of scrap metal took a lot of older stuff out of the market, and high fuel prices made moving it very far too costly. I had heard that the owners were getting tough with people bringing things in - they used to let it sit longer, now they want everything to generate cash, right now.

I usually go to the December sale every year, but that place has become a joke. Too high of holds on everything, stand around all day in the cold to have them tell ya "It's going to take more than that" and pass on to the next piece of equipment. Look at their tractor report every month, not even a quarter of what gets brought in sells and they have the same tractors there for 6-8 months. Waste of time, wouldn't go other than my dad still likes going down there, just to gawk.
