Another crop report

Mentioned earlier about driving through an area that had dairy farms and they were growing corn for silage. Corn started off well with good rains, then there was a dry spell last month. It has rained again and by now crops look ok. They have cut some corn for silage. Looked at some stalks left standing, they were 6-7 feet tall, one ear 6 inches long by 1 1/2 diameter on each stalk. Leaves on stalk starting to turn brown, corn in dough stage. This field planted after small grain taken off for silage, corn no tilled. Other corn not planted after grain and planted early April looked taller and had bigger ears.

Soybeans mostly looking good, a lot of them no tilled after grain, verying heights maybe 6-18 inches.

Word is that milk prices are not good.

Forgot to mention: Alfalfa is not grown too much near here, I think weather is too hot, or it's too expensive to establish for us po' folks. Any, sombody a few miles away has put in a nice lage field of alfalfa last year, and has gotten at least 2-3 cuttings, looked like nice yield when I saw squares in the field. I think one cutting was washed. This guy built a nice new house and a nice large barn also.
