Found That Noise!

Well, fer darnit!

Been hearing a weird "clutch-hub" noise on my big tractor for the past few days. Fan seemed to come and go and the tractor has been running kinda warm too.

Front bearing on the alternator finally let go and the rotor cut a leg on the stator winding and the diode trio shorted out causing a horrorific battery drain. Fan belts slipping also.

Four and a half hours broke down and two trips to town for repairs. Still managed to get across 60 acres by 6:30 last night tho.

Maybe today will be a better day. still have 30 acres of hay to bale and 130 acres of weeds to kill.

Those extra trips really kill you. I made 3 trips to 2 towns once to replace a sink faucet. Got it finished just in time for dinner guests.

Got a tractor alternator giving trouble also, guess that's up soon for repairs.

Hate them extra trips! I was replacing pickup teeth on the baler. on dealer 40 miles away had half what I needed so had to go to the other dealer 40 miles away in the opposite direction to get the rest.

I have so many delco alts on things here I keep spare parts on hand all the time.

Alternator went on my little 850 ford, they give you warning by that burnt clutch smell, dead battery, then the big bang er uh that nice plume of smoke, nice to see it was a delco-remy and was about $50, need one in my small car, they want $200, I just don't get it, it's all the same inside.
