Should I wait for the tractor manual before proceeding?

I've got a 1968 Case 580ck (159c.i. gas) torn down to remove engine and have a manual on order. I'd kind of like to remove the front crank pulley and governor assembly but am not familiar with this engine. Does anyone know the procedures? The pulley has 1/2" sq. drive in center and four threaded holes to hold front hydraulic drive unit. Is the pulley a press fit? I can't readily identify how it's held onto the crank. I've got gear pullers but I'm scared of breaking the pulley. Is a slide hammer a safer method?

the nut just holds on the front pulley.just use a 1/2 inch breaker bar to take it off.then use a harmonic balancer puller to thread into two of the holes and pull it off.yes it is a press fit

You probably should use a split bearing separator
behind the pulley and pull from it. If that gear puller won't move it you may need a puller like this using a hydraulic ram or bottle jack. This one was made by Bigdog for a Cub. Hal

Are you saying the 1/2" sq. hole is the nut that holds on the pulley? If that's the case it would be like a grinding wheel or mower blade and be RH or LH thread depending on the direction of rotation.

I believe that would be a 530CK for that year and 159 ci gas engine.
Yes it would be a good idea to check out the governor as they are prone to freezing up or sticking.
Do not use gear puller on the pulley and follow the directions given for using a two bolt puller threaded into the provided holes.

Got one of those critters myself...it's been a good machine.

I believe you're probably correct on the 530ck ID. There's some confusion regarding different serial no. charts and B vs. ck designation. So now I'm expecting a 580ck manual that won't be too much help.

its just a nut.has what i would call a controlled thread depth so it will bottom against the crank.it is rh thread
