I was removing a dead elm tree from beside a pond today with my little Poulan saw. Of course its on a slope and I slipped, with me going one way and the running saw (with brake on) going into the water. It didn't run long in the water!!
What do I do now?? other than letting it dry out, need I take out the spark plug?
Looking for suggestions before I pull on the rope.
Thanks

Empty out the gas tank, spray it thoroughly with Heat. Drain everything you can. Clean and dry air filter. Remove spark plug and blow it dry.

When all dried out, put in fresh fuel and fire it up!!

Gotta watch that slippin with a running chainsaw stuff. Last thing I did cutting for today was drop two more oaks and slipped and lost my balance and fell right after I let off the throttle. Caught my jeans from my knee almost to my crotch as it was winding down and cut them to shreads. Didn't catch any skin or give myself a free gender change, but came mighty close on that one. Things happen and this pair of jeans is trash now. Gotta buy another pair...do my part to jump start the economy through Levi.

Drain the tank(s), pull the plug, check for water in the oiler and off/run switch, pull the rope with no plug. If you can get into the grip (switch and wiring) with a hair dryer, get the water out of there. Fill it, run it before it sets up.

Good luck.

was weed eating around the lake last year while the level was down, wearing flip-flops and next thing i knew i was in the water and heard the weed eater make its last gasp. got hold of the weed eater and threw it to the bank then tried climbing out of the lake. ever try climbing out of a lake with a muddy shoreline? funniest thing to see i'm certain, lucky for me i was by myself. had to use my elbows to dig into the mud and push with my feet, finally emerged with mud and algae all over me. put the weedeater in the barn and got a shower. next day pulled the plug out, shook out the water, primed the carb and its started right up.

Thanks folks! I followed the advice given using the hair dryer. There was no water in the cylinder and the plug was dry. No water in oiler nor the gas tank, but drained and dried them anyways. Lots of water around the carb so I dried that and the chain area. New oil and gas and about 6 pulls of the rope and there's life back in the beast!
So now I'm ready to go back out, a little wiser, a bit slower, and with a clean looking machine.
Thanks again

You guys really need to film this stuff. Bet it would be a winner on America"s Funniest Videos.

Just kidding glad neither of you were not hurt.

I'll tell you what. Been cuttin trees for years, and that was a close one. The first one ever of those. Stumbled backwards over something, fell on my keister and back, felt the chainsaw grab my jeans, got jabbed in the back of the neck by a sappling stub. At least the finger came off the throttle on my way down and I had the saw in both hands as it was winding down. I need to thank God for that tonight. I should've done it last night. That was a close one, he could've let me go but didn't. You should see those jeans. They sure got tore to bits. I don't know how I didn't, but am thankful.

And by the way...I do believe I'll take you up on the chaps. Thanks. I guess this oughta be a warning to me.

You were extremely lucky you never changed your voice.. unforgiving machines as you could see by a previous post from a kickback.
