OT/Mazda cruise control doesn't work

The cruise on our 2001 Mazda Tribute w/V6 doesn't work. A few months ago, it was in an accident and the passenger side front wheel was pushed back a couple of inches. It was several weeks after we got the car back from the repair shop when we noticed that the cruise didn't work. Any suggestions as to what may be wrong are appreciated.

Could be many things.I'd call the shop & tell 'em it worked before the accident. They'll more than likely take care of it.

Why would they? was the shop responsible for the accident? are they responsible for everthing that goes wrong with the car after the accident? Have it diagnosed and go from there, could be an aditional that should be charged to the insurance. Why would you tell them it worked before unless you are trying to make them pay for something that isn"t their responsability? From the sounds of the post they didn"t know if it worked right after or if it is a new failure.

Nice attitude otto!

Why WOULDN'T they call the body shop that did the repair? They're the one responsible for getting the car back to pre-accident condition! They got paid well for it and will take a look at it if asked NICELY!

How much you wanna bet that a cruise module, cable or wires were damaged due to the FRONTAL crash?

Sheeesh.......

Old is right. Just because the car was in a crash and repaired does not make it the body shop's responsibility.
I recently dealt with a Cobalt that was wrecked and repaired in our body shop. The concern was the Traction control system warning light was on. Turns out the traction control was disabled due to the PCM detecting the engine misfiring. The cause of the misfire was a burned valve on cyl #1 causing low compression. That part of the repair was a customer pay concern, not an insurance covered repair.
First check the brake lights. There is a lot of Ford in that vehicle. It used to be that a burned out brake light bulb would disable the cruise. If the lights all work, then take it back and tell them what's going on. If they do mechanical work, they will diagnose the problem and find out from there if it is crash related or not. To automatically assume it is crash related is not fair to the shop despite how well they may have been paid.

Thanks for the bulb idea. Saved me saying it. When a car takes a hit and the brakes are being used it will almost always pop at least one bulb, usually the third brake light.

Bradk, first off as you said "it could be many things" might be from the accident might not, after all this is a 8 year old vehical. regardless you said "tell em it worked before the accident" I'm sure it did at one time, perhaps it is the accident but at this point we DO NOT KNOW! You ask why wouldn't they take it back. Never said not to, of course they should, however should they look after it? You argue that they are responsible to bring it to preaccident condition, well once again this is a unproven point. We just dont know. Once it is diagnosed and if it has failed because of the accident the shop is still not responsible for repairing it. The next step is to get hold of the insurance and tell them that there is further damage due to the accident and it is up to the insurance if they are willing to pay the shop to do further repairs. Finally, last point, you claim they have been well paid.being in this industry my experiance is that insurance companys do not pay well, again in my experiance they dictate what will be repaired and how much they are willing to pay. Please dont be so quick to blame the shop, I have 32 years experiance in this industry and hear coments like this all the time, is it always the shops fault? of course not, ( i know you never said it was) however the tone implied it. If I'm wrong I am sorry. Also I do realize some shops are bad and unfortunately they seem to be the ones people remember, however there are also lot of good shops trying to do a good job, make a living and educate the people they deal with about the complex nature of car repairs.

Otto, very well said. I see the same thing on the repair side with aftermarket extended service contracts. Some of them try to get away with paying factory warranty time. My response is always "Only the factory gets warranty time. Everybody else pays regular customer pay rates."

Look otto, not trying to get in a pi$$ing with you. You're TOTALLY taking this the wrong way.

I wasn't blaming the body shop whatsoever.I'm sorry you took it that way.I'll admit, the way I interpreted the post is that the cruise hasn't worked since the collision.I still do.I simply said to take it to the body shop that did the repair. They know exactly where the damage was done and to what extent.A quick look in the affected areas COULD reveal the culprit.Could very well be it had absolutely nothing to do with the accident.

If no apparent damage is noticed by the body shop, the customer should take it in and get it diagnosed by a competent repair shop, but only after the body shop has had a chance to take a peek.Is it possible they didn't hook something up? Yes very! I'd sure appreciate the chance as a shop owner to make a mistake right before a customer comes in my shop with guns-a-blazin' because another shop charged them for a repair which was my responsibilty.Particularly if I was the cause of the malfuntion.

Lastly,I've been in and around the body and repair business for over 25 yrs. My cousin owns a very reputable body shop down the road from me.Several close friends either own or are employed in reputable body shops.Never once has any of these folks said that they hate insurance gigs because they don't pay enough. If any remark is made,it's that they LOVE insurance work and usually make out pretty well.Sometimes VERY well. The payment checks are always on time, never bounce, owners never asked if they offer a payment plan, never stiffed for a job done.

This got blown WAY out of proportion.Let' get back to the holiday weekend huh?
