Silly 686 needs a battery (shorted) and an alternator.

Explained to the wife that she was going to have to get a second part time job so that I could continue to farm.

She just looked at me sideways. :>)

Your maintenance needs are multiplying as fast as the number of tractors you have (each with a dedicated piece of equipment attached). Sounds normal to me. :) Jim

Yikes; Allen.... After thaat suggestion, Ya might want to take a trip down to the local super market and take a look at the local bulliten board in the entrance...Check to see if the dear wife has any of your tractors listed on an upcomming rummage sale!! grin

If it were one of our tractors, I'd just take the battery and alternator out of Nancy's Ford truck.

Can't believe I just said that; bet I'm in trouble now.

Alternator went out on the Oliver 1755 the other day, great thing about the old Oliver, 1971 chev pickup alternator is identical $42.00, can't fix anything for that money anymore. I'll bet that red power alternator was quite a bit more. Just picking on ya. Still love all the pictures keep em coming.

Allen: You should know that the more equipment you have the amount of maintence goes up with the square root. That is the way it is around here you can fix one thing and another will come to it's funeral. Son had trouble with the new battery on his JD 50 running at night on the baler. I suggested he put some solar out door lights on spots on the baler that needed light. He run two night on them snd they worked great. They charge up during the day. Suppose he can get some credit for going green.

One good thing about Wally world batteries is their guarantee. They just have a 2 year (I believe) replacement guarantee but they prorate the trade in over about 9 years or so (I believe). I took in a battery a while back that was over 4 years old. Kid said it was past the replacement period so no warranty. His boss came in and said they prorate over the life of the battery. They went by the date code stamped on the battery since I didn"t have a receipt. Got a new battery for half price. When you pick a battery off the rack, check the date code for a fresh one.

[Well since its giving you so much trouble I will come and haul it away for you, soon as I finish the hay. Best part of that is, lady told me today she would take all I put up. Round baler starts at 6am.
